Ban Hammer Drops on Modded 360s
Do you have a modded Xbox 360 and you can no longer access Xbox Live with that console? Well, don’t fret as it was done on purpose. The release of the Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta has only increased Microsoft’s dedication to keeping Xbox Live fair in terms of competition. I don’t have to worry about this because no amount of modding could increase the lack of skills I have so I’d never modify my console for any advantage.

If you see this screen, say goodbye to Xbox Live. As a result, some consumers that try to login to LIVE who we detect have illegally modified their console will get an error code (Status Code: Z: 8015 – 190D) when trying to connect to the service. These users will not have their account automatically banned from LIVE, but they will no longer be able to access the service from the console they modified.

It seems like a good time to point out that Xbox 360′s and Xbox Live are two different things. You may have bought your console but you do not own Xbox Live therefore they have every right not to let you on it anymore.

This may be a good time to point out that nobody said anything to the contrary, myself included. We’re discussing the PR used in this issue.

Bring it on bill, u little puke. Ill sit at home playing single player on my modded 360 with allllll my games i copied, that u didnt see a penny for,and ill grin my teeth out. And then when my boys figure out a way to get back on live (which i promise you they will) i will firmly have my hand back in your pocket where it belongs. The only thing you will accomplish with this banhammer is… you will ban a bunch of retards who, yes, are modded but also bring you a disgustuing ammount revenue with live subscriptions, arcade games, etc. You will ban some genuine live members(because your stupid). But to the people your after, the people who have never bought a game from you, never bought a ms point card, the ones with stores full of burnt games and modded xboxs, you will only succed in making us go underground ,where we will not sleep untill we are back at it again. mark my words bill

Matt.
I have a feeling they told everyone they were going to stop the ‘cheating’ because that was one of the top complaints on XBL.
No offense, Deacon, but it irritates me to no end when people (you in this case) who have no idea what they are talking about try and misconstrue the reality of the situation. NO ONE has gained ANY unfair advantage through *flashing their firmware* (not really the same as modding, which is, as of yet, not a reality for the 360). You are not able to play custom game discs. You are not able to modify your OS (dashboard). The only thing it allows you to do is play back ups
Playing back ups? you mean bootleg games then since I never knew it was legal to play back ups on the 360. What sounds like crap is post like this (no offense) when people try and explain why the would flash thier bios or mod a system. MS can set any rule they wish it is after all thier system, thier OS and thier right. People think when they buy a new game system this gives them the right to flash and mod it with out any recourse.
I am glad MS continues to try and make the Online community safe from gamers like this. No matter the intent the action is a form of modding and they got what they deserved

Wow – first of all, actually read what I wrote and mine and Deacon’s subsequent conversation before making yourself look like a jackass. Second, modding without personal gain or piracy is *not* illegal. I can think of at least 2 people off the top of my head who had 360s continually scratch their discs and got sick of it because MS wouldn’t repair them because *technically* nothing was wrong with them. So they flashed and made backups. Oddly enough it’s something entirely legal with other forms of non-permanent media. VHS tapes can legally be backed up as long as you don’t distrbute those backups. Just because Jack Valenti has always had great relations with those in power in the US ever since he was LBJ’s right hand man, that somehow makes it different for digital media? Bullcrap. The DMCA has been shot down so many times it’s laughable.
Now, if you had actually read what I said before making your remark, you’d know that I acknowledged Xbox Live as a Microsoft asset and that I believe that they have every right to do whatever the like with it, including restricting access from those who break their contract. That doesn’t give them the right to put a blanket label of theif/pirate/criminal/cheater/etc. upon anyone who modifies *their own property*. If you write in a book or highlight it, the publishing company doesn’t brand you a criminal does it? It’s not a direct analogy, but it applies.

My comment is no one should be banned for anything. If you have a modded console you are not hurting anyone else over xbl. Lets say people are actually changing code on games buring them and then playing them enabling them to do things the game was not intended to (hence cheat) well whoopti whoop, who cares people they ARE JUST GAMES. MS has so much money and we pay for every DL content on there. If someone doesnt play fair odnt play with them who cares!! MS makes so much cash and now they released the elite to piss me off!!! i love my xbox360 and it is not modded but i dont mind for others to do it..

that’s a valid opinion.
