View Full Version : So how long will the Wii last?

We all know that the PS3 & 360 may last several more years than 5-years, like most console's lifespan. However, I believe for Nintendo... Their Wii is a here & now sort of game console that's not prepared for 5-years+ into the future, and while Nintendo is racking in the big bucks now, sales will eventually dwindle way before that 5-year lifespan is up.
3-years from now... Would it be very wise for Nintendo to go all out and make a very powerful machine with all that money they made on Wii/DS sales, while incorporating the good things they have learned with the Wii?
I feel that is their only option... what say you?

I'm not going to even try and think of what they'll come up with next because it's Nintendo and well, they're nuts
As for the Wii, I reckon it can last that long but it all depends on the third party support. Thankfully more and more developers are realising how easy it is to develop for the Wii ('cept Treyarch! lol) and are pledging their support.

Well I'm just saying because HDTV sales & everything else HD will be commonplace by then. When people pay $1000 to $5000 on a HDTV, they want their console system to take advantage of it. With the Wii, it looks far worse on a HDTV than a SDTV.

I don't know about the US but here in the UK, HDtv's are still in the minority and it'll be atleast another 4 yrs before that'll change. People still have the SD sets and until their current t.v's malfunction, they'll hang on to them.

So now what you are saying is that most people in the UK have Zero reason for Blu-Ray/HD-DVD & HD games.
Hmm, interesting.
I believe it's the same in the U.S. also, and by the time HD is needed/wanted by the majority... Blu-Ray & HD-DVD may be obsolete, while the PS3/360 HD games will not.

That's exactly what I'm saying, those that bought a PS3 had purchased a HDtv either a short while before or a short while after. In either case the console and tv went hand-in-hand. There's some that would have already owned a HDtv but seeing as there's a lack of any HD channels here, it was only a few.

I still like Atari 2600. Coming up on 30 years now.

The Wii will last until Nintendo's new console.
There you have it.

i think the 360 and PS3 will last about 5-6 years, but i can only see the Wii lasting about 4-5.
but still...

I picked up eledees (elebits in US) and I'm really, reeeaaally impressed. For an initial effort from Konami its incredible. Its games like this that make me think third party is coming to the Wii.

Depends on Wii's 3rd party game sales.... Do you know how good they are selling?

Ubisoft revealed they broke records on the Wii early this year. I think it was a month after the Wii's release. EA also pledged full support with 16 original titles coming designed for the Wii and Eidos is working on new games too. I'll see if I can find the Ubisoft thing.
EDIT: here it is! (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/26/wii-boosts-ubisoft-sales-by-78-in-january/)
