Is it that good? I haven't really heard anyone say anything bad about it but it doesn't seem like my type of gameI think it's great, but it's really hard to compare to most other games. I know some people don't like it, but I think most do. You may just have to give it a try and see. You might not enjoy it. I'm taking a break from it for now (trying to finish up campaign in Gears), but then I'm planning to go back and work on my garden some more. :)
Deacon, you are/were a big fan of Viva right?

I agree with all of the awards....apart from NFS Carbon for best racer, im sorry but there is no way on earth NFS was better then test drive or Moto GP 06. Im not a EA hater (honestly im not, i think there are another 2 out there some where! lol) but NFS:C is a sad excuse for a racing game it is cliched, ugly, and the physics are horrible (you only need to use the brake about twice in every race).
Test Drive on the other hand is epic, yeah the physics aint that great in TDU either, but the sheer scale of TDU is amazing, racing game of the year with out doubt!
Also Moto GP 06 although highly annoying at times (getting knocked off your bike every lap) it is still a solid racing game, both of these games would have been worthy for the award, IMO one of them should have got it.

At any rate, I think GoW wons solely by virtue of the facts it is newer and sold more than Oblivion. Otherwise I just don't see how anybody thinking objectively could pick it over Oblivion as game of the year.

It has good graphics but I think the gameplay is boring. The only reason I still have Gears is because my brother plays it a lot.

I think you hit it right on. Gameplay in GoW is highly redundant especially on Live when on most maps people rush the the snipers and 'nades and whoever gets them first wins. Graphics are good, among the best we have, but not in any way groundbreaking. Once Halo3 hits everybody will be "Gears, who".
