Driving through the night this morning to get home from the furniture market and see my wife, cats, and of course my 360 I had a thought.

Playing X # number of hours and buying Crackdown entitles you to play the Halo3 Beta, but what they didn't say was at what point. It would be a bold move by Bungie if they opened the Beta allowing 2+ million people on at once. I see the following happening;

First; I see them allowing users they personaly invited into matrix.
Second; I see them allowing the users that logged X number of hours on Halo2 in.
Finally; I see the the people that purchased Crackdown being invited.

The registration happened in 3 phases and I believe in 3 phases the redem codes will be sent out. In every other Beta I have particpated in the above is how its done to ensure the servers can handle the load and the code is optimized.

I know I will get flamed because this is not what people want to hear but it makes sense.

i don't think they'll do that. they're preparing for the huge wave immediately i believe and not in phases.

Yea, normal betas do seem to work like that. But i mind you, we are dealing with microsoft here. Can't expect them to do anything right, or how it's normally done. I think it is just gonna be a full on OMG GO DOWNLOAD HALO 3 BETA!!!1!! !1 AHHH!

Yeah, I don't know about that either. The alpha and private beta testers have been banging away on it for some time already.

If there was a phasing I'd think the ones that signed up might be first. The people that bought-in with Crackdown will tend to be less useful for the cause of finding bugs.

Live will be locked up when that happened like it was when the tease came out at E3.

yeah I imagine that when it is actually available for download, simply downloading it is going to be quite the adventure.

Its easy to think I am crazy; I should of started my numbers at 4,5, and 6. One of course being Bungie, two being MS, and three being a combo of others. (military and the group of 2k gamers I recall being called Ambassadors)

Think about it; at MAX we have 10K people playing the current build of Halo3, its preposterous to think Bungie is going to jump from 10K to 2+ million. If you know anthing about that networking thing or those computer things and you believe I am wrong; You have to admit that is a ballsy move to say the least from Bungie. Not to mention as others have stated 2+ million people downloading the darn thing.

I have no worries;; My posting account that has never logged a minute in Halo2 got invited by Bungie, I logged enough hours on the old XBOX account to get the invite, and my main account (this one) plays Crackdown..

Edit; God its so good to be home.... I just fired Shadowrun for the first time, playing the training..

Bungie already said the beta will not be phased. Once they are out of Alpha stage, everybody who has already been accepted into the beta, or have Crackdown, will all be able to start playing it on the same day.

Well it looks like I was wrong for the most part. However it appears phase one was friends and family, phase two were the bungie invited folks, and phase three is crackdown.

Noone knows when the Crackdown folks are going to be allowed to play.

I signed in for the first time in weeks to get the dashboard update and see if I could snag the beta through Crackdown...nope.

Look for me on WoW if you need anything.

The beta is working through Crackdown now. Had a game of Slayer earlier on.
It was all I needed to know for sure that I'm just not interested in the game unless the single player really rocks.

The graphics are nowhere near as bad as some people are saying btw.

I wonder what is turning people away from the game? I for one love multiplayer games and my earlier game of rumble pit today let me know that I deffinently should have taken a sick day today.

The beta has been extended if no one noticed. They extended 4 more days because of the one day lost for Crackdown buyers.

Great news! Now I'm almost not mad at Microsoft for delaying the beta.

Though the game is fun to play, it feels like more like Halo 2.5 than Halo 3 IMO. I didn't feel like I was playing a sequel but rather an upgrade.

Upgrades do sell. Look at Rainbow Six Black Arrow, GRAW 2, Madden....basically any EA Sports or Ubisoft Montreal title ;)

This thread needs to die, I resurected it being sarcastic after all the problems users were having with Crackdown. My whole 3 phases to be accepted and 3 different dates to join was WRONG..
