Damn....
Wait so will the HDMI cable make games even sharper?
DeaconBlade
03-27-2007, 11:37 PM
i suppose. if you have a television that's of decent quality w/hdmi..yes. but nothing to sell your house over.
blazsox

Only games in 1080p.
I can now officially say this, "I'll pass."
Finally.

I'm glad it's not LE, very smart move.

Its cool and will help sales but its unlikely I will buy one.. HDMI is not going to look any better and I currently have no use for a larger HD.. I think the white looks better.. My premium will own your elite, name your game...

omg someone who reads the entire article! wow. i've had plenty of emails already asking if it's limited. i'm like..i stated clearly it was not a limited edition in the article

The Elite is stupid and pointless IMO. All they needed to do was release the 120 GB HDD at a reasonable price and then drop the price of the 20 GB.

Your site was the first place I actually read that it wouldn't be LE. About 2 minutes later it was said on Major's new blogcast. It was the only question I had about the Elite.

I don't think I'll get an Elite for awhile...
I don't really need the HDMI even though i have a HDTV that supports it, and I'd rather use the $480 on games and maybe a separate 120GB hard-drive...

What's the current 360 price in the states?

hey deac...is it a limited edition??? j/k i agree it's a waste...what they should have done was make the drive inside the system a HD-DVD drive....that + the 120 gig + HDMI = elite...

don't forget wifi ;)

holy crap its expensive.
Going by directly converted currency however I must add that the console will liekley be more expensive than this.
360 -£350
wifi -£60
HDDVD -£129
total - £539
over £100 more expensive than the PS3. WOW.

I'm not sure what's going to be worse...the people still calling it LE or the ones that will be calling it 1337.
Cool. I won't be buying one but cool.
DJSteel
03-28-2007, 07:18 AM
i'd save to buy one if it came standard with the HD-DVD and wifi...

lol, you guys crack me up.
I just read that the Elite won't contain the cooler 65nm chips.
DeaconBlade
03-28-2007, 07:58 AM
that 65nm chip is SO overrated. it has no bearing on performance/cool etc. that's only what the interweb would have you believe.

The internet had me believe the Elite existed and it did :lmao:
I get what your saying though.

03-28-2007, 08:06 AM
if it has the same structure, architecture, and part...would these elite consoles have the same issues as the core and the premium
DeaconBlade
03-28-2007, 08:10 AM
in theory i get what you're saying DJ but all that is relative. i've never had any issues with mine so am i to assume all of them will be fine like mine? ofcourse not lol

I just think for the price you're paying, you should be getting more. I like the idea of having 3 SKUs thus offering the consumer a choice but I feel they should have varied the Elite more from the Premium.
DJSteel
03-28-2007, 08:15 AM
it does looks damn sexy....
big isy
03-28-2007, 08:17 AM
lol, I probably got this wrong but.........
Gamestop and walmart have the Premium 360 for $400.
Elite is $480. If you take away the HDD which retails at $180 then the console costs $300.
So the premium is more expensive than the Elite in terms of what you're getting.
DeaconBlade
03-28-2007, 08:39 AM
i think there should have been more variation as well Isy. you throw an HD-DVD drive in it at $480 and it's game, set, match.
now as it stands, it's really a niche audience that will get it. most will still opt for the Premium or Core. i mean for what it retails for, the Elite is a bargain with the $179 price on the 120GB but still....it's not quite that "elite" now is it when you compare it.
big isy
03-28-2007, 08:41 AM
you nailed it deac. It is nice, more value than the premium.

btw, if any of you are interested....send me an audio clip of your thoughts on the Xbox 360 Elite...1-2 minutes in length. can be .mpg, .wav whatever.

I might do this, the only thing it would be is me saying how completely pointless it is, besides the 120 gb drive... pretty much exactly what u said on the last show lol.

Blu-Ray & HD-DVD is unnecessary with HD digital downloads... I only want to see a movie once anyways.
Also, about that Wifi... What about the people who don't use it (Majority) or the people who already have a Wifi adapter... Do they have to eat the higher costs because of that also?

#1 - if you are calling this console elite.. the elite crowds would want the best.. No HD-DVD(199.99) no wireless adapter(24.99 - 99.99(official 360)) built in is not the best of the best.
#2 - wireless is cheap nowadays. The fact is you give people the choice..if it's built in they won't have buy another component to make that happen, you can choose between wire or wireless...

Yet all those things adds to higher costs for the system... COSTS that I shouldn't have to pay extra for if I want a Black 180 Gig HDMI having 360... You want those things = Buy them separately. DON'T FORCE THEM ON ME! Hello Sony?

First off you can't cut the BluRay drive so drop that argument, PS3 games will start to need it.
Second, go buy a bare HD off the shelf and drop it into a PS3 if you want. Can't do that with 360. You'll have to pay $179 for a 120GB HDD when that same money would buy a 500GB + drive from a leading maker.

Where are you going with this?
PS3 games need Blu-Ray... Nope, there is no NEED. I can change a disc after 20 hours of play to play another some odd hours.
Yeah about that HDD on PS3... But most of it will be used to save game initial download content on while the 360 provides be far better service. I agree, the 120 Gig for 179.99 is a lot, but so is the PS3 at $600, when Blu-Ray isn't needed.
Sirharper
03-28-2007, 07:59 PM
No you cannot swap discs because that would fail Xbox 360's required certification.
When PS3 titles start to leave 360 in the dust because of greater capacity you'll know why BluRay was necessary.

:wtf: 360 games can be more than one disc.

Greater capacity wasn't necessary with Many PS1 Final Fantasy games (Multiple discs)... How come now all of a sudden, since Sony now has Blu-Ray?
Blu-Ray is not NEEDED! It's just an added plus to not have to change a disc once, twice, three times or four = wow, that's sOooo important.
How many discs is CRYSIS on... Is it on Blu-Ray... How many PC games are on Blu-Ray?
Sirharper
03-28-2007, 08:13 PM
Look it up...all titles must conform to MS's certification rules. One of the rules is no multiple disc titles. They may eventually reverse course and change like the 50MB Arcade limit was, but to date that is one of the certification requirements.
Your BluRay points are too Apples & Oranges to even respond to. Not the least of which is that PC games come as compressed installers for your HD instead of playing off just the disc.

Oh? I can't have a 360 with a HDMI that doesn't have the 120gba HDD? If you're going to use the ' PS3 has shit I don't want' argument then keep in mind that folks can do the same with the 360.

i agree with Mike on the first thing..blue dragon is two discs..
but the data is not one disc..that is why they tell you to switch discs during installs..

nah..if you play half life 2 you need just one disc to play but you need all the discs to install (if you don't have the dvd version)....same with Diablo 2...three disc install but you can install everything and only need the play disc for verification...

No, I am talking about DVD holding power, and that TWO to THREE discs would work fine for the 360 to equal what Blu-Ray does for the PS3... Just change a disc after 10 to 20 hours or so.
I don't believe that makes Blu-Ray so necessary... I can change a disc after many hours of play.

OK fine, a one-time exception was made. Much like Football Manager being a game that REQUIRES the HDD even though not requiring one is also part of the certification process.
Point is neither game is sold in North America. Exceptions only are being made in the smaller market areas.

Even two disc is one too many with the alternative product can fit it all on one.
Does anybody realize that defending DVD9 when something better is out there is as foolish as people that said CD were not needed when cassettes worked fine?

MS would easily surpass Sony as the biggest (most harmful) liars if they reversed course and started putting games on HD-DVD or Blu-Ray.
I say Blu-Ray because one of the theories floating out there is the reason Elite didn't come with HD-DVD is so MS could sell a Blu-Ray player add-on later should the other format fail...and it's failing even worse than Zune. I love it!
