this is f'd up..when you are paying money on consoles that break in less than a year...what does that tell you about the console developers...

Mine broke in MArch last year, four months after I got it. I lost all my save data as the HDD had to be taken in and I was charged shipping as there was no shipping policy in the Uk back then.

that is something that goes hand in hand with the drive not reading games in my world...although it doesn't happen as much as the before mentioned issue I'm experiencing....

That sucks man. I messed my 360 up last year around this time, cuz I played Oblivion for 2 days straight, yes that means no sleep, and i sent it in. It took em like a week and a half cuz it got "accidently" put on last priority shipping. they said that i practically imploded the insides of my 360. Lol, they sent me a new one

i'm sorry but is this not a gaming machine??? should it not be able to handle gamers wear and tear???

If you system was made in 2005, I believe MS still covers that under warranty. If not, just give them a nice yelling and I'm sure the Indian dude you will get on the other end will weasle out and say you can get a free repair (or, simply they send you a refurbished system). Just be sure to keep your HDD.
DJSteel
03-27-2007, 06:54 PM
what if they tell me to send that as well??

Yea they'll make you keep your hdd so they dont accidently send you a second one. and it's true whoevers on the other wend will give into you if you keep yelling at em, bunch of wimps at microsoft
Edit: Oh and have you tried to wiggle your Hdd around some, you'll get the red death lights if your hdd pops out sometimes. Try that before you call em, they'll tell you to try it when you do.

If they do, you say "**** off" - you spent your money on their product, damnt, they should fix it.
Throw some racism in there if need be. Thats how you handle customer support. Works for me.
And that is why some black dude from Oregon will probably kill me one day.

Welcome to my world people, I got the Red Lights 2 weeks ago. I have a PRP from Gamestop so I went to them and they said my my PRP doesn't kick in until the initial 3 month warranty from Msoft is up (I bought my 360 in January). I was so pissed, I felt like giving that fool behind the counter a beat down, because nobody told me that when I purchased the PRP. So I had to send it to Microsoft. In order to get it back as quick as possible I paid for overnight shipping.

Just once I'd like to see what would happen if one of the 360 zealots had this problem.

update...I've reported my issues with MS..I have to send out my console for repairs. I've told the rep I was very displeased with what I have to deal with right now. I am a big fan and supporter of the 360 but I have to say when a console dies on me after less than a year.. that doesn't give me much reliance in the replacement system. they've noted my complaint and she told me that her manager will call me back later on and maybe they'll send me something for my inconvenience...

You and I deserve a couple Elite 360s for our inconvenience. My freaking 360 died after 2 months.

MS originally sent boxes to the consumer and would overnight ship you the product when they were done. Now they make the consumer do it, and ship standard 3-day.
As for the inconvenience - you probably just got yourself a free gamer pic. Congrats.

OMG IT WAS HACkED!!! (http://www.gwn.com/news/story.php/id/11941/Xbox_360_Hardware_Failure_Survey.html)
Thats what most are gonna say when they see the statistics. 59% fail rate is bad news.
DJSteel
03-30-2007, 09:32 AM
Out of the 2181 survey submissions so far:
891 (40.85%) say they have NOT had a console fail
825 (37.83%) say they've had one console fail
465 (21.32%) say they've had more than one console fail
Overall, 1290 (59.15%) of respondants claim to have experienced Xbox 360 hardware failure.
913 (41.86%) submissions purchased their first Xbox 360 before January '06. Of these 913 submissions:
602 (65.94%) claim their Xbox 360 broke
311 (34.06%) say their Xbox 360 is still going strong
Head over to 360-gamer for the full list of stats and a pretty graph.

that's crappy... and out all those moving parts in the elite console...expect the same failure rate...

Like I mentioned in another forum, the Elite may have a different architecture to the the current set up. But since they haven't revealed anything, my money is on it being the same.

those are definately some pretty bad failure rates, but with such low numbers the margin of error is substantial.
I am not saying its perfect by any means or even as good as some other electrical devices. I personally am on my 3rd xbox, first one froze up - got my replacement and it had a seriously strange graphics glitch as soon as i plugged it in (ill look and see if i have the pictures and post them if i do). It got worse the longer the xbox was on, so that one had to go back as well.
This was when they changed the policy that you had to ship it in yourself - and I actually ended up having a rather heated discussion with a manager at support saying essentially "Why should I have to pay to ship back the BROKEN xbox that you sent me, in replacement of my previous broken xbox that I just sent to you not even 2 weeks ago"
so they sent the box ;)

tell me you guys aren't putting ANY real meaning behind this poll of people? who conducted this again and how random was it? omg, i polled a few friends a few weeks ago and 22/22 had no issues...so should i put that on media blast?

I don't actually believe that 51% percent have failed but I can tell you that 4% number that MS quoted (which by the way was early on and never repeated) is wrong by at least a factor of 4, likely even more in the 5-7 range.
If only 4% of units had defects you hardly hear these stories and there would have been no extension of the warranty.

i hear ya on that but to suggest 20-38% is ridiculous of this poll and anyone to believe it should be taken seriously.

LOL...no I think 20-38% is the range where the truth lies.
51% is the figure thats not very credible.
On the surface it appears to me these people do not know how to draw a statistically significant population sample.

Theres no backing to these polls, or any polls regarding this. People can always lie. I just think folks need to realise that the fault rate is a lot higher than what MS have been letting on.
