Van Guny, coach of the Houston Rockets, wants the NBA Lottery to change and I agree with him.

He wants all teams to be able to participate in the lottery, not just the losing teams. I've always had a problem with awarding losing teams with the #1 lottery or more ping pong balls.

I mean you can still keep some system that would favor losing teams receiving the #1 pick but don't exclude a team just because they win more. Make it available to all teams!

I think it should work the same way it does in the NFL and NHL. Better you are, the lower down the list you go.

I am not a huge NBA follower, but I have always disliked the NBA Lottery.

it's fine how it is...in fact i'd like to see less teams in the lottery...

well i think they need to fix something...like Blaz..just assign it..the worse you are you're guaranteed the #1 pick..no stupid lottery ball system. and then assign the rest of the teams their #s according to record/playoff/championship

btw..the NHL has a lottery like the NBA.. but this system is the best to keep teams from tanking their seasons just to get a good draft pick..

i think it shoiuld be the same as the nfl also. nobody complains about that and it cant be fixed like a lottery could be.

It is pretty silly.

I remember a few years ago Detroit coming off a great year and almost had a chance to beat Cleveland for the first pick (James).

I like the way it is because if you win the championship you shouldn't have a chance to get the first pick. Imagine when the Lakers won our 3 championships with Kobe and Shaq they got the first or second pick, the team would be stacked. So I think it's fine because teams would be very uneven.

BTW how does the NFL draft work

NFL has no lottery. In the NFL how you finished the season determines what order you pick. Worst record picks first, Super Bowl champ picks last.

NBA is goofy though. There is some ranking of records but there is also a random drawing that could get you the first pick.

In the example I used Detroit came off a great season almost going all the way, then due to some luck they came within a hair of beating Cleveland for the #1 pick. Thats pretty silly.

I think it would be better if the lottery was available to all teams, but the current system is not so bad too.

I'm positive the lottery would no longer exist if the Pistons would have been able to pick Lebron.

or if he went to the Lakers... people only complain when teams who need the talent get it and not the teams that need him...like Cleveland...it was the same way for Pittsburgh and Sidney Crosby... no one wanted him in Pgh...
