Hello all i just wanted to let everyone know i just saw this information

ZDNet Article (http://blogs.zdnet.com/security/?p=131) Text of Link: http://blogs.zdnet.com/security/?p=131

Direct link to the article. But to boilerplate it. a small group of people who have their gamertag linked to their live id have been hacked. Microsoft as of yet does not have a solution, some people have seen charges of MS point in excess of 800 dollars on their cards. so be wary of any unusual activity.

Lets all hope MS fixes this problem and refunds those people in distress. :curse:

I'll wait a bit longer to judge the validity of this. It certainly is possible.

But if anybody is waiting for MS to admit it just remember their policy is to first deny it, then say it only involved select users (blame them), then when there is no other option admit the problem and praise themselves for fixing it.

ZDNet is a very legitimate source I must say.

It's network traffic, not much different than any other traffic. They have already needed to apply numerous security patches along the way. All things considered Windows is more secure than Xbox Live and look how often that gets exploited. All it takes is a will to do it and colaboration of information and efforts.

This however seems to be more like account hacking though. That would be even easier.

it's not Xbox Live being hacked. it could be some form of account hacking sure...but it's not Xbox Live being hacked. that part i'm 100% about ;)

I guess my title was somewhat of a misnomer, Live itself hasn't been hacked but rather gamertags linked to the Windows Live ID have been. It also looks like the hacked accounts were used to funnel funds out of their attached credit cards.

Indeed, just don't insist it cannot be done. If it hasn't been done in the past there wouldn't be the need for all the security patches over the years.
