now this is interesting... the effect on the PS3 sales of MGS4 vs the effect on the X360 sales of GTA 4

I was one of those folks that bought a PS3 and MGS4 last month.

Now who called it again? - http://www.unscripted360.com/forums/showpost.php?p=47235&postcount=2

The Ps3 will keep outselling the 360... While it may be close with the $50 drop in the 20 Gig 360 SKU, that will only last a few months. By Christmas, if Microsoft doesn't drop the $349.99 60 Gig 360 tp $249.99, the Ps3 will overtake it for good each month on out until Microsoft decides to do a real price cut.

i wish i had your help on Xbox.com dealing with some of the jaded folks over there Mike. they refuse to think that MGS4 had anything to do with the growth in PS3 sales.

lol, so what caused it for that month... That close to 200,000 gain over the 360?

Wow Deac... People are clueless.

Limited Edition MGS console...

Yes, & that's another reason why the 360 will remain close in sales - I do believe Sony will pack another game with the 80 Gig Ps3 at $399.99 by Christmas = LittleBigPlanet?

What a smart move that would be, to get many millions & millions of casuals on board the Blu-Ray train.

If MGS4 doesn't hit they are stagnant. MGS4 completely saved them for June. There first truly AAA system seller. We'll see if they can retain that momentum.

If you haven't noticed, the Ps3 has been gaining each month (Being close, or selling more than the 360) but the MGS4 bundle helped in a huge 100,000+ way.

Blu-Ray helped in those monthly Ps3 increases before MGS4 hit the street... lol, NOT FREE online play = Huh Deac? ;)

I noticed but without MGS4 they stay close to the 360 each month. Next month you will see them dip again with the 360 and PS3 neck and neck once again if not the 360 slightly ahead due to the $50 price drop.

50 dollar price won't do that much for sales...

Like I said before... That $50 drop will not carry the 360 in monthly sales over the Ps3 for long. It will be close.

Get ready for this prediction...ready?

The 360 will still outsell the PS3 in the states for all of 2008. I think the 360 is set for a huge holiday season for a few reasons...

- Gear of War 2
- Fable 2
- The Netflix announcement
- $50 price drop (early increase will be enough)
- FF XIII announcement

I don't think Sony has the big guns just yet games wise to overtake them in annual sales this year.

It's more about what you get for the cost... Movie loving People want Blu-Ray & they know the SONY name along with the Playstation brand.

That gives the Ps3 sales even though the 20 Gig 360 will be $100 less = Casual People think "Well, they are BOTH game consoles, but for $100 more I can have a Blu-Ray player"

When a casual person thinks with common sense like that, they will most likely pick the Ps3 every time. Yet a Hardcore gamer will decide on what game titles each have over Blu-Ray movies = Most likely pick the 360.

I believe the casual outnumber the hardcore, & I believe the casual care more about reliability because they don't know all the facts like we do, or they are not fanboys to overlook something important like that.

Netflix thing is a sham.. and will be more expensive for it's convenience than anything.

There are 8 million Netflix subscribers. They won't get all of them but they gave that base a reason to buy a 360 over a PS3 for the sheer convenience of how they get their movies. I think they get at least 500,000 to 1,000,000 of those members to pick up a 360 over the next year post release.

You are crazy thinking hardcore games will move many more 360s = Most hardcore gamers already have 360s.

Sony (Besides Nintendo) will have the casual crowd because of Blu-Ray & their exclusives like LittleBigPlanet.

Your prediction will not turn out well for you.

We'll see. I think the race is going to be closer than you think between Sony and MS this year. I think it is neck and neck with MS pulling it out in the end. 2009 is a different story however.

Also, I think MS and Sony both will still struggle to pull in the casual gamer. Games like LBP, Banjo and Viva Pinata just aren't going to be enough. Nintendo will clean house with the casual gamer for the forseeable future until the price points hit the magic sub $200 mark which isn't going to happen for a long time if ever.

DeaconBlade

There is nothing casual with the 360 over Blu-Ray = The Ps3 has the casual ace card over Microsoft's 360.

Neither the PS3 not the 360 has the casual ace card. BluRay does matter but it is not there to appeal to casual "gamers". It is there to appeal to movie fans that have HD. By the time the HD attach rate is over 50% in the states the Xbox 720 will be out and will have BluRay built in.

I think it will continue to be close with Sony and MS and either one has a chance for 2nd place before this thing is through. I think everyone sees though that MS is building towards their 3rd box and perfecting their offering now to built a better next gen device.

DeaconBlade

yeah i don't think Blu-ray is casual at all. it is though something that's over the 360 because people are starting to look for it. and it's the first thing retailers go to when Blu-ray comes up.

that's an ace for Sony right now.

Movie watching is for the casual along with the hardcore & even most casuals care about the quiality they view their movies = Blu-Ray/Ps3 is the only way to go.

Why do you think I wanted Microsoft to do an add-on for the 360? Think about how easy that would be to switch from one 360 to another in a different room, or even a PC?

I wouldn't have the need to buy another Ps3. = My point... Less sales for Sony & possibly more for Microsoft.

No more than $150 though, & I bet that is the reason why they can't do it.

Considering we are not even at the half way point and they are at 20 million I don't think we have to worry about that. They will surpass the Xbox by a pretty good margin overall and be more profitable in the process.

Now that has to be the most ignorant thing you have ever said, & trust me... that's saying something.

Casuals along with the Hardcore movie watcher goes to the movies buys/rents movies & uses that medium as entertainment... To not think so is clearly ignorant.

Wait... not at the half way point of the Xbox's lifespan? The Xbox was out only 4 years & we are past 2 1/2 for the 360, so what in the Hell are you talking about?

The 360's life span. Not to mention it has sold 20 million at a much higher price point and each unit is now selling at a profit. The 360 has been much more successful than the Xbox.

you can't categorize movie watchers.. you've been on this stupid kick with the casual and hardcore...stop drawing lines in the sand.. not everything is black and white... and your little comment is pushing it..

Sorry, I was out of line a little bit... It just seems you are always singling me out, going against what I am saying for no apparent reason = It gets tiring.

What grey area is there between a casual movie watcher & a hardcore one., you tell me... An alien?

it's cool.. there is some middle ground right? I mean I don't feel like I'm a casual movie watcher or a hardcore movie watcher.. I love watching movies but I don't have to go see them when they come out in the theater..

What grey area is there between a casual movie watcher & a hardcore one., you tell me... An alien?

A casual movie watcher is just someone that watches movies either at home or in the theater and it does not matter how often.

A hardcore movie watcher is someone that analyzes every movie that comes out before it even comes out. Someone who surfs the net looking for any information on any movie no matter the genre. Looks for magazines, books.....etc.....

That is the only difference.
