Sony is getting destroyed 4 months after launch and they keep spinning it by saying they need to restock the stores!
But then there is this link = http://www.vgcharts.org/news/news.php?id=111
Did I just prove something... Yes, I know I did.

The news article doesn't take the number of consoles shipped to Europe and other regions into consideration. You've proven nothing other than the 360 is currently selling more than the PS3 by 100,000 units approx. in the US. Now do the Japanese numbers.

I am not Japanese and they are 3rd on importance... U.S. is #1 for sales, and this is of the MOST importance.

Cheesemeister at the NeoGAF Forums highlights the Japan game hardware sales for the week February 19 to 25. The data, coming from Japanese game market analyzers Media Create, reports the following console and handheld sales totals for the week ending February 25:
DS: 136,260
PSP: 100,210
Wii: 78,506
PS3: 19,315
360: 4,183
They go by weeks sold... So if you times that PS3 number by 4 weeks, it comes to a little under 80k units sold... PS3 would be over 30k off counting Japan & U.S. sales just against 360's U.S. numbers.

I just went through it and worked out theres an 800,000 unit difference between the PS3 and 360 (not counting consoles sold prior to PS3 launch in Nov).
Thats a lot. But since you were quick to point out the 360's hardware dificulties when it launched, I think its only fair that we take the PS3's stock shortage when it launched into account. The 360 would still be beating it even with the stock shortages by around 200,000 units.
For a console that's had a year to gather its bearings, that's not a whole lot.

you got it wrong, the 360 is selling way more. Looks like I just proved your point ;)
I honestly expected that though. I mean the 360 has had a longer run and people know what to expect.

But you are not counting the year of sales the 360 had prior... you are counting after the PS3 launch. The 360 is outselling the PS3 during/after it‘s launch by hundreds of thousands of units, and there never was a shortage of PS3's.
big isy
03-15-2007, 08:58 PM
I thought there was a huge shortage of PS3's hence the meagre 80,000 units to Japan and something like 200,000 for the US. Even with the shortage the 360 has a lead of 200,000 thousand (estimate).
And technically, it would be unfair to include the consoles sold prior to the PS3 launching. I want to know how much each of them sold during the same period of time. The 360 came out on top, I only mention the year its had as that affects the sale of the console. more games and gamers are more familiar with it.

The Wii has won, I mean, how the heck could they sell so many consoles, and portable machines in one month?! They're not human I tells ya!
Back to sanity, its more the motion sensing controller than the price although I'd be an idiot to think the price had nothing to do with it.

who? It wasn't me was it? Although I do agree that PS3 fans (not fanboys  ) shouldn't care as all that matters is whether they like the machine.

It would be better to drop the price later in the year after the big hitters have released. Unless the synch the price drop with a major game release which would definitely shift more units.

WTF... the 360 sold more than 100,000 units than the PS3 in the month of February in the U.S... No one is counting the year longer sales. Another thing... Tell me when a year older competing console outsold a newly launched competing console in the same Gen it's first 4 months in a row?
Launch sytems always sell more than their same Gen enemies... But not with the PS3.

Let me clarify... I was talking about the consoles makers who are not dying or who are not newcomers. Of course a newcomer is going to lose to an established brand.
Many doubted Microsoft when the Xbox came out and many grew tired of Nintendo before the Gamecube... Sony shouldn't be in that same boat, or should they?

I always said that even the $400 dollar 360 was too much money for most to pay. Thats why a year and a half in and it still has sold only about 1/3 as many as the original.

Well I remember... Do you? The PsONE had a reasonable price for a CD-based system at the time compared to the 3DO & other add-ons... The Saturn was $400 and weaker & Nintendo's 64 was cartrige based... While it was a good price for the system ($199.99) the games were few & far between at $60 & $70 a pop.
That's mostly why.

What are you talking about... What do you think Microsoft envisioned with the CORE?
Sirharper
03-16-2007, 12:36 PM
I think they envisioned selling a stripped down unit to get more units out for launch and also to make more $$$ buy forcing those user to add the parts seperately at a greater profit.
Didn't you make a thread suggesting the Core was going away? What point are you trying to make? Which direction are you going?

No, the CORE isn't there to screw people... It's to give those who don't want to pay $400 & don't care about online/wireless a choice. it's also a system that Microsoft can lower to hit that $199.99 sweet spot.
That thread about the CORE being phased out is just a possibility... No fact.

Yeah, hard to believe, huh? I'll always buy the system that offers the best tech for the games... That's why I bought the 360. History also shows that the more expensive more powerful NEO-GEO system couldn't compare in sales to the SNES & Genesis. The PS3 is more expensive, but not more powerful for games in the REAL world, with real world gaming development situations... Only theoretical.

Well having the 360 doubling up PS3 sales in the U.S. during PS3's first 4-months after launch is an amazing thing when you consider the size belief of the PS2/Sony fan user-base.
Also, one thing we have overlooked with this console sales talk is the SOFTWARE sales that are actually more important for developers to be content developing exclusives, or games at all for such platform.

Virtua Fighter 5 was released for PlayStation 3 on February 20, 2007 and only sold 53k units to a system to has sold a little over 1 Million systems.
What are people buying the PS3 for you ask... Well, tech heads are buying it for a cheap Blu-Ray player first, not really caring about the games. = That spells big trouble for Sony & future exclusives for the system, or possibly even not very many games ported to that system at all.
