Seems ol' Marky can't make up his mind with the PS3. This week, he's impressed with the system and believes it'll sell.

Epic VP Mark Rein really believes in the PS3...at least currently. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz during GDC (and after Phil Harrison's keynote), Rein sang the praises of the PlayStation 3.

"As the big titles come out, they're going to sell a bunch of machines. When PlayStation Home comes out, they'll sell a bunch of machines... Yeah, it's a high price, because it's a new, high-end piece of equipment, but history shows that price will come down. They'll sell lots of them, it'll be fine."

He also took a shot at some of the system's critics regarding the supply and demand issue.

"So wait, if they don't have enough machines in stores, that's a bad thing? If they do have enough machines, that's a bad thing? Pick one!

Mr. Rein, if there aren't enough systems at launch and they cause craziness, that's bad. If Phil Harrison says they are completely sold out everywhere and they aren't, that's bad, or at the very least misleading. Situations can change like that.

I can completely see Sony surging forward and taking a position at the front of the pack again, and I can understand why people would rise to defend Sony after seeing some of the stuff in store for the system.

What I can't understand is why they keep letting Mark Rein talk.

What would Epic gain by bashing the PS3?

Nothing, you could argue that their games would sell more on the 360 because of them bashing the PS3 but that's a petty point to make.
The only reason its funny is because it shows just how quick devs tend to change their stance on consoles.

It was really Gabe Newell that trashed the PS3... Mark said some things that probably made Sony mad, so good chances are that Sony talked to Mark. It's also not smart of him to trash a system that one of his games is coming to.

Mark only ever said the 'Next gen is when we say it? Bullshit!' when talking about Sony's comments on Next-gen gaming.
Personally, the Wii is the only truly next-gen console with the PS3 coming in as as a semi-next-gen console and 360 being more of a an advanced last-gen machine. Gaming is defined by it's controls for me so the Wii is the only one I'd class as next-gen.

Then what was the difference between the PsONE & PS2?

i would never call the Wii and its motion nonsense next-gen  they should start just calling this next iteration instead because really none of them offer any new technology that's so far advanced that it'd be considered next-generation...HD has been here for years...HDMI....high end graphics....it's been here.

digital distribution...been here....so really....all this talk they should just stop...and say this is just our next system

LOL yeah, but a better graphical system than the one before it has always been considered Next Gen.;)

Because graphics make the game

There really wasn't much difference between the psone and PS2 in terms of what they did. The PS2 was obviously more powerful but the new thing it bought to the Sony portfolio was online and rumble controllers. That being said, it was hardly a revolution in gaming to warrant being called next-generation.

IMO, next-gen is a tag that should be used for a console that revolutionises the way we play games.

Nope, the SNES was considered NEXT GEN at one time over the NES... Graphics have always determined NEXT GEN over the other.

Notice the 'IMO', that tells you what I think should define a next gen console.

ITs more DX10 than Crysis.

No, they even stated that DX10 doesn't add a whole lot... More effects sure, but most of the game we've seen has been running on DX9.

The next-gen version of crysis is what you'll get when playing it on a DX10 graphics card. The DX9 version looks good but nowhere near as stunning as when its running on DX10 cards.

Not really... Console games are developed on a PC with the Dev kits.
