"No, friends: Motorstorm is not all peaches & cream.

This thread is for those who have ALREADY grown thin on patience with Motorstorm's online game experience. I need to get it off my chest, and I'm quite sure I'm not alone.

Let me start with what's frustrating the hell out of me:

1.) CRASHES that sometimes happen for no apparent reason. I've wrecked out more than once with nobody around on flat land. like my vehicle hit a hard patch of AIR or something

2.) MICS. do they work or don't they? I have a Plantronics Discovery 640 (the $100 BT headset) for my phone and PS3. works great for my phone. works great on Resistance. should work on Motorstorm. But I have yet to be able to talk to anyone, nor have I seen anyone else talking. I'm finding that lots of people are having this issue.

3.) QUITTING. What the hell is up with this trend? Every game there are at least 4 guys that quit.

4.) Servers that are on the verge of filling up? 250 slots/server and only 4 US servers, 2 of which are 95%-100% full most of the time? WTF???! I don't see how this can be a good thing. Hasn't denied me the ability to find friends, but I can't imagine it'll be long before it does.

5.) Vehicles spawing in the way. Nuff said.

6.) LOAD TIMES. Lord have mercy. Everything takes a loooong time. It's like when you're choosing your vehicle you're trying to find the car you want in the 20-seconds of time while battling against the load times to go from one vehicle to the next. Re-damn-diculous.

7.) MUSIC. How irritating can in-game music be? And how long do we have to wait for 1st party Sony titles to finally get the ability to replace in-game music with music on the HD? Microsoft systems have been doing this for 2 damn generations. Come on now. Everyone doesn't want to hear bad rock and roll.

8.) Lack of significant differences betweeen vehicles within a class. Race one car? you've raced them all. Raced one motorcycle? they're all the same after that. Why WF even bother, evolution studios?

9.) Hosting seems to take forever. Either all the hosts I've played under are retarted, or it takes like 2 minutes for a host with a full room to select a track and vehicle type limitations.

10.) LANGUAGE SELECTION. Why do I have to tell the game EVERY TIME I POP THE DISC IN that I want to play IN ENGLISH?! Damn it. If it's ENGLISH the first time, it won't be SPANISH tomorrow. Yes, you have to tell the game what language you want to play in every time you boot the game.

11.) Can't invite friends to join me.

in summary: this has been one rocky experince so far. Understand, I want this game to rock online. I didn't pay $60 for crap, but I'm getting less than I expected right now and its irritating me greatly.

well, that's all for now. please fix, evolution"

O.k. please do not hate me for posting this info... I just thought this is info that should be known BEFORE you buy it or buy a PS3 for it.

Also, on DLC for MotorStorm... I'm sure many will want to know this...

What I say, The game lacked modes and these downloads should be free. It's absolute BS to charge for them. They gimp you on modes, on tracks, and then they want you to pay extra for what should have been there in the first place... What is Blu-Ray for again?

I don't see how this thread is in any way newsworthy.

I was going to find that article from a few days ago on that one guy who received seven broken 360's but I won't bother. There's always an unhappy percentage of folks, nothing special.

Just ask Intangible 360...I think he's on his 7th 360.

Funny how you guys bring already known 360 console problems (Console or owner cause of the problem?) into a factual PS3 game related thread. Most of the issues are clearly problems in the fit and finish of this game.

This game lacks polish in the worst way in several areas.... Just letting you guys know all the facts before you buy. Knowledge is power, so stop hating the messenger Sony defenders.

Until I hear a PS3 owner I actually know comment on the game and not some stranger whom I don't even know owns a PS3, I'll be a little sceptical ;)

I seriously wish a PS3 owner would join here and give his/her verdict on the console, it'd make our constant arguing stop.

Nope... People's opinion of a product that they just paid $600 for will never be truly honest... They will have a defending agenda, unless they are rich and don't give a shit.

The thing is... Is that I do give a shit about gaming and that I will buy the best for the money.:grinking:

So the best person to give a view on something is someone who doesn't have any of the consoles then

Well, how about this... When you play the game, see for yourself if all these problems are true to you. This is just here to let you know, and to compare... Just please don't become what Sony is known for now = A liar! Instead, tell it like it is.

Btw, most are saying the game has 30 second load times... By the time it starts to the time you start to control your vehicle.

big isy
03-11-2007, 04:33 PM
Load times are always an issue for me. I feel my 360 is dying cos it takes forever to get to the dashboard. I'm hoping that if it does **** up, it ****s up before April though as my warranty runs out then.

Back to Motorstorm, I've only seen footage of it and frankly, it looks breathtakingly beautiful. I hear there's very little tracks and modes but they're planning on releasing DLC so its really wait and see. I really don't wanna say too much about what I think of the game as I don't yet own it.

No... how about someone you know that is not so biased... Maybe give your own opinion when you play it?

And btw... These comments about the game are not hateful bias... It's either fact or false. You be the judge.

I never said it's a bad game in any way (I know there is fun to be had)... But it is a lacking unfinished game with only 8 tracks & one online mode... Too me, that goes against what Sony was hyping Blu-Ray for.

03-12-2007, 04:40 AM
I completely agree. with the Sony bit. I think its low on content but that'll soon be fixed via DLC. Sony really lost the ball with the Blu-ray stuff, I don't doubt for a second a game will come out that utilises the benefits of the Blu-ray but I reckon that'll be some time.

Sirharper

You know whats funny about this? We have a whole class of people that want and need to believe that DVD9 is all gaming will ever need. So now a PS3 game comes on something other than BluRay and those very same people are jumping up and down saying how inadaquate it is.

for what it's worth...i enjoyed Motorstorm...at least the demo  it did have some 'too sensitive' crash dynamics...sometimes i would just be driving along and blow up...and no it wasn't because of the overheating mechanism in the game. still, good game from the demo.

Motorstorm is definitely lacking depth, but for what it is as a core product, its solid. I will lying if I said Motorstorm is worth $60. In time it will be when Evolution Studios (not Sony) releases the DLC packs. Now whether or not those DLC packs cost a pretty penny is soon to be seen. If the price is fair for what comes with it, I will invest in it.

But currently as a gamer and a person who tries to save a dollar here and there - I never buy games at $60. I always do deal searchin. Currently my GameFly subscription had the cheapest price for Motorstorm, so I got it for $43. So I am happy with the purchase. If the DLC packs equal or are less than $17, I wont be complaining.

I'm glad the PS3 games are cheaper than 360 ones here in the UK then :)

if I could afford a PS3.. I'd get motorstorm.. the demo proved to be a great game...shallow or not.. the variety is in the multiplayer...and from what I heard it's pretty deep online

okay.. not a big deal.. they could always add more

Yeah, they will... But I just wonder if they will cost extra for something that's already on the disc for most racing games. Leaving out common modes to charge a FEE later is something I get very upset about. = LOL, just ask Deacon when that Horse Armor came out for Oblivion and when I found out that was planed before the game finished development.

Developers leaving content out of the final game to charge a FEE later after you already paid $60+ is a very cowardly thing to do... I won't support such a thing.

The game does look pretty incredible. I still think F1 looks better, but Motorstorm certainly has the mud effects going on.

I am enjoying this game a lot right now, and I havent even touched it online. I finally won my first race. Before then I couldnt get above third.

That's dumb.. But I expected that from you. To compare a racing game (When they always have many modes) to a 3rd person shooting game like Gears of War is ignorant at best.

Funny how you have to bring down Gears to help make yourself feel better.

both games were supposed to be bigger than they really are.. both are graphically amazing but very little depth.. that is why you can compare them..

Pretty much, all you can do is play 4 on 4 teams.

Have you even played GoW? Yes I have to ask considering your gamerscore is so low and you hide your games.

All you can do is play 4 on 4 teams. Thats pretty much the only mode there is.

If you disagree we would all love to hear your reasons why.

For what it's worth, I owned Motorstorm and got rid of it. It's a cool game, but definitely not deep or fun enough for me to keep in the collection. That being said, the PS3 is like what, 7 months old? It's still a damn baby. Many of the problems with games will be ironed out as the library grows and developers find ways to maximize the hardware.
