View Full Version : What are the "must have" PS3 games?

The only ones I am even interested in are Unreal Tournament III and Resistance: Fall of Man. Other than that, the fact that I won this thing on ebay was pretty much a mistake. I just wanted to be less biased, but as I look at the games, I realize there aren't any I REALLY want to play.
I'm in to shooters and I am looking for some newer sandbox type titles, if they have any. :)
One other question, since it's BC with the PS2, and the PS2 was BC with PS1, can I play the original warhawk on my 20GB PS3 (since, like Xbox Originals, I can probably get it used for $5 rather than paying for it on their "classics" catalog, or whatever they call it)?

Nice, Blaz. lol... yes, everyone's tastes are different, but there are certain games that any system cancall a "must have." Like the Xbox 360 would basically say everyone should have Halo 3, Mass Effect, and BioShock.
Seems like Uncharted, the new Warhawk, and Reistance are those games on the PS3. Especially since UT3 will be on the 360 soon enough.

Yes but with the PS3's ability to add mods, its surely the better pickup if you have both platforms. UT3 is extremely fun online. I did trade it, but thats only because I have no time for multiplayer.

I haven't found a MUST HAVE yet...:irked:
Heavenly Sword = Single player only that has a very short 6 Hour campaign... Blu-Ray Disc?
Ratchet = Single player only that has a very short 6 Hour campaign... Blu-Ray Disc?
Uncharted = Single player only that has a very short 6 Hour campaign... Blu-Ray Disc?
Resistance = Over a year old & still $60 & it doesn't look or play as good as CoD2
Motorstorm = Floaty Controls & only 8 tracks that all look the same, but for $30, it's worth it if you love anything racing.
MLB: The Show = If you absolutely love Baseball, this is the game to get & I like it but not for $60
Warhawk - Online Only game & I don't buy online only games no matter what the price.
Unreal Tournement III - Nothing but a frag fest (No real campaign) & I got bored of that back in the early Xbox days.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma - I already own the Xbox version of Ninja Gaiden Black that is basically the same game. While the Ps3 version does look better in most areas the gameplay remains the same. The Ps3 version has it's share of things that bothers me & it’s not present in the Xbox version.
I’m still waiting for a good Ps3 game to utilize Blu-Ray for a 20+ hour experience (Without the use of cut-scenes) that would be worth paying $60

Uncharted was more than 6hrs for me..

Uncharted took me around 8-9 hours and R & C took at least 10 hours.

O.k. guys - I'm just saying those Ps3 games are very short for being single player only games & being on Blu-Ray discs.
I bet if you both played them on easy, they would be 6 hour games. I would say the same thing for Halo 3/Gears yet both of those at least had Co-Op & Multiplayer.

Gears multiplayer was an afterthought.. and Halo 3 was an online stable for the 360...Uncharted and Ratchet are single player experiences...
Mikewarrior

That's funny... Halo 3 & Gears also had single player experiences & in Co-Op Plus many played their multiplayer as well.. Now why didn't Uncharted/Ratchet/Heavenly Sword also do that with the Blu-Ray MASS storage?
Developer difficulty/time limits?
To pay $60 for a short single playing "ONLY" campaign game, is weak sauce.
Viper86

I don't think co-op would have worked well with those 3 games. Same can be said for MP, with the exception of R & C, which had MP in previous versions. Just because they have Blu-ray doesn't mean they'll actually utilize it. I think many developers have already shown that they won't take advantage of it.

you must be drinking the sauce.. Ratchet and Clank was always single player, except for one game, if I recall...Uncharted, much like Tomb Raider, was a single player only game...

Now, who said Uncharted has to be like Tomb Raider... Wasn't all the Tomb Raider games Last Gen games, so Uncharted is following that path?
So good & easy for the Devs to do.:shocking:

Nope, the one that is out isn't a true Next Gen game from the ground up... Go look it up.
Yet Uncharted uses cover elements like Gears, so why couldn't it be Co-Op now?

Tomb Raider Legend?? I think that was X360.. wtf does it matter that it uses the cover element.. Crackdown has many elements of GTA, but you don't see a competitive multiplayer in it like you do in Saints Row..
Viper86
03-10-2008, 06:17 PM
What does a cover system have to do with co-op? Have you even played the game? The majority of the time you're playing alone as Drake. Where would a second person fit in? Also, a lot of stuff breaks off/apart when you're climbing around. So a second person wouldn't be able to get keep up. Co-op just doesn't fit with Uncharted's gameplay elements.

Tomb Raider Legend = Port job! http://www.ebgames.com/search.asp?Ntk=TitleKeyword&Ntx=mode%2Bmatchallpartial&Ntt=Tomb+Raider+Legend&N=0&find.x=39&find.y=9
See all the different versions - Last Gen game on a New Gen system isn't anything new.
& At least Crackdown had Co-Op, Uncharted what?

:lmao: Do you honestly believe they would have made it exactly the same if they did think of including Co-Op in the first place? Gears, even PDZ did it by splitting up the two in certain parts, so why couldn't Uncharted again?

Is that your answer for everything? Btw, you don't need to be a programmer to have common sense that they could have implemented Co-Op/Multiplayer in those Ps3 games.
Just more Devs being Lazy - Sony fans like that excuse.

you have to have Common sense to spell it though... you know nothing about game development, so all you do is complain about shit that doesn't even make sense lol..

Laziness has nothing to do with it. It's obvious that co-op/MP just didn't fit in with their plans.

dude.. i loved WWF No Mercy.. the control scheme was the best of any wrestler... why hasn't Smackdown vs Raw adapted that control scheme?? simple.. it's a different developer.. they have a different idea of what the game should look like and play..

Mike, why do you always hijack my threads? In plain English, I don't like you. The end.
Moving right along... how is Warhawk online only? Doesn't the game have a single player campaign like the original? Or is it some kind of dogfighting "UT in the sky" kind of game???

There is no single player campaign in Warhawk. It's a challenging game but fun once you get used to everything. Most maps involve air and ground combat. So it's not always about air combat. There a few different game modes like capture the flag, capturing bases, deathmatch, and team deathmatch.

Warhawk is some of the most fun you will have online. If you like Crimson Skies online, you will totally digg Warhawk. Dogfights are great.
I havent been on in awhile, but its an online only game priced right ($40 standalone on PSN, $60 w/extras and bluetooth headset in stores).

lol you made my day, but for real... I'm here giving my opinion on the subject at hand. I'm not the one attacking anyone because of their opinions, unless those opinions are pertaining towards me as a person = That's when I'll go off.
NuAngel
03-11-2008, 06:15 PM
Yes, I know you're not attacking anyone, and that's good of you... but... does your opinion need to be known every single time someone starts a thread? It's like every thread I make you start a debate about one thing or another... it genuinely doesn't need to happen.
And then, when someone makes a point, your come back is always "do you work at company X? No, then you don't know, do you!?" but if they say "are you a developer?" then your comeback is "is that all you've got?"
The simple fact of the matter is, I don't care if anyone is a developer, or where they work. I wanted some feedback, and I got some feedback. Whether or not someone is "paying too much" for an "incomplete experience" like Ratchet and Clank is perfectly within the realm of each individual's judgment. Considering the lop-sided majority of Ratchet and Clank games were single-player, and they had stellar sales, I think the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" approach might work well for Insomniac games. And whether Uncharted needs to be just like Tomb Raider isn't really a point of discussion - the simple fact is, Tomb Raider is a proven succesful formula, and lots of companys would love to copy it and hope for sucess.
These are all points that can be made with every article I read on official review sites. I came to a forum to ask for titles of games. Those titles I could then research. I didn't need a huge debate in a thread I created.
Now then, please wipe your feet on your way out.

Yes, I know you're not attacking anyone, and that's good of you... but... does your opinion need to be known every single time someone starts a thread? - Isn't that what's called participating in a forum? It's like every thread I make you start a debate about one thing or another... it genuinely doesn't need to happen. - lol, you think I start it by giving MY opinion on a subject? Try to remember something, I'm not the one going against my opinion trying to accuse me of lying or just plain bashing.
And then, when someone makes a point, your come back is always "do you work at company X? No, then you don't know, do you!?" but if they say "are you a developer?" then your comeback is "is that all you've got?" - First to know the ins & outs of a particular company during a discussion I truly believe you do need to work at such company to back your statements up, However, one does NOT need to be a developer to understand software development techniques…. Hope you can understand that.
The simple fact of the matter is, I don't care if anyone is a developer, or where they work. I wanted some feedback, and I got some feedback. Whether or not someone is "paying too much" for an "incomplete experience" like Ratchet and Clank is perfectly within the realm of each individual's judgment. And whether Uncharted needs to be just like Tomb Raider isn't really a point of discussion - the simple fact is, Tomb Raider is a proven succesful formula, and lots of companys would love to copy it and hope for sucess. - You asked for feedback & I gave you my truthful opinion & I didn't have the need to go on & on the subject of those games giving little for the $60 price... It's just others had problems believing that my opinion is accurate & thus caused a longer unnecessary discussion = Just trying to get MY point across to those individuals, not YOU.
These are all points that can be made with every article I read on official review sites. I came to a forum to ask for titles of games. Those titles I could then research. I didn't need a huge debate in a thread I created.
And that was never my intent, (It never is) but it always seems certain people have problems with MY OPINION on game toys, or me as a person & that causes me to really go off.
Try not to own yourself next time.:d
