Depending on price cuts (That is if Microsoft lowers the 360 by $100 this year & greatly improve it's RROD factor) I'd say sometime in 2010

The PS3 is what, 8-9 million behind? The PS3 outsold the 360 in Japan and Europe during 2007 and I see that continuing from here on out. Depending on how badly the 360 gets out sold in Europe this year, I'd say the PS3 could pass the 360 in worldwide sales by late 2009 at the earliest. Of course, it may never pass the 360. So who knows.

It all depends on the price cuts. To be honest though, console sales aren't the only measure of success. Software to consoles sold ratio as well as peripheral sales should be factored in as well. Looking at the whole picture, MS is beating the socks of both Nintendo and Sony right now. That may not always be the case but for now MS sells more peripherals and software.

just think the will be a lot of people that still have the ps2 and not upgraded to the ps3 so the potential to pass the 360 is enormous.

well you guys do know that a saturated market also plays a part. the PS3 is relatively knew versus a 360 that's considered "old" on the market as it already has quite a user base installed.

i dont' think any console has consistently sold over the course of its lifespan. they all lose sales gradually. just look at the Wii. i mean how much more can it sale when it's already in damn near every home

this race is over. Nintendo already won. neither will overtake the Wii this generation. and the race for 2nd is over. the 360 has already won. the software battle is where it's at now. they've nearly tripled what both the Wii and PS3 sell combined.

the hardware will be a lot closer but just look at January's numbers more closely. even having sold the least # of consoles, the 360 still had the most sold titles and it still sold more accessories and software than both of them combined.

that won't change. there'll be a price cut this year so even hardware wise, it won't change much.

Sorry that I have to do this to you Deac... I'm trying to be fair

well you guys do know that a saturated market also plays a part. the PS3 is relatively knew versus a 360 that's considered "old" on the market as it already has quite a user base installed. - At around 18 Million sold, the 360 is far from being a saturated market.

i dont' think any console has consistently sold over the course of its lifespan. they all lose sales gradually. just look at the Wii. i mean how much more can it sale when it's already in damn near every home  - One of Ps2's best sales were during it's 2nd year on the market, while the 360 sold less during it's 2nd year with it's #1 game releasing

this race is over. Nintendo already won. neither will overtake the Wii this generation. and the race for 2nd is over. the 360 has already won. the software battle is where it's at now. they've nearly tripled what both the Wii and PS3 sell combined. - The 360 hasn't won #2 yet... The PS3 has the name, better known in-house IPs & a Blu-Ray edge

the hardware will be a lot closer but just look at January's numbers more closely. even having sold the least # of consoles, the 360 still had the most sold titles and it still sold more accessories and software than both of them combined. - That's expected of a console that had a 1-year head start & 7+ million more consoles on the market - Also, many Ps3s were sold as cheaper Blu-Ray players

that won't change. there'll be a price cut this year so even hardware wise, it won't change much. - Depends on what the price cut will be, & if Sony won't now follow by getting a 45nm CPU in the Ps3 already

2010? Are you serious???

By then the 360 will be 5 years old and I certainly hope that a new model will at least be announced if not already shipped. Anything less would serve as proof that console progression is in stagnation.

I cannot predict when or if PS3 will surpass 360 in numbers. The ace in the hole for MS is the fact these 3 year RROD warranties will start to expire in November. This will effectively force the current installed userbase to rebuy their hardware when it breaks, and we all know it will break. In typical MS fashion they will tout total sales of consoles to the media packed with the units sold as replacements. The real story however will be in the actual installed base numbers which will not be inflated by replacement numbers.
