Just a forum sig similar to yours,
how do you go about doing that in gimp?

I first learned Gimp from some of the guys at Podtacular. Watched a lot of tutorials. The thing with Gimp is the text options are really limited and most don't blend well with the sig. Heres a link to a pretty helpful tut. http://podtacular.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=19865&highlight=tut

No I made mine in photoshop. I've only had photoshop for a couple of days so I'm still kind of getting the hang of it. Oh yeah if you need good renders check out www.planetrenders.com. If you want I can throw something together for you.

Very nice! Looks way better then my first attempt! I love Gimp its so much easier to use than photoshop, only reason I switched to photoshop is I plan on going to college to become a graphic design artist so I figured I'd get a head start. Only tip I would offer is when you place your render. Use the smudge tool, set the opacity fairly low and go around the outside of your render lightly. It helps blend your render into the background. Other than that great job it only gets easier from here on out.

first, the download:
http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html

next, the tutorial(s) for making sigs:

http://www.gimptalk.com/forum/topic/Full-Tech-Sig-Tut-1790-1.html

http://www.gimptalk.com/forum/topic/Full-Sig-Tut-1283-1.html

http://www.gimptalk.com/forum/topic/Full-Sig-Tut-7768-1.html

next, render site, join it:
http://planetrenders.net/

last, to get fonts and brushes:

fonts-
how to download:

http://www.1001fonts.com/popup.html?q=install

site:

http://www.dafont.com/

YOU MUST RESTART GIMP IN ORDER FOR THE NEW TEXT TO POP UP

BRUSHES~ you dont need them tho-
but it sure helps

http://browse.deviantart.com/resources/applications/gimpbrushes/

How to put the brushes in gimp, first dowload them, then open the brush, and WinRaR should come up, extract the brush files to the following in this order:

1. click c drive

2. click program files

3. click common files

4. click GTK

5. click Gimp 2.0

5. click Share

6. click gimp

7. click 2.0

8. click brushes

9. you should have extracted them to c drive+ program files+common files+ GTK+ Gimp 2.0+ Share+ Gimp+ 2.0 + brushes

there ya go, everything you need to get started, found this info from threads over at podtacular.
if you need anything else let me know.

actually for the extracting it went a bit different for me, instead of winrar it went to a compressed folder so i extracted all the files, then i tried to manually transfer them but after i clicked GTK there was only a 2.0 folder and inside the 2.0 folder theres only a themes folder

edit: nevermind i got it now its just in a different folder

I've got a Mac so I had a hell of a time finding Tutorials and nice looking text to import. Photoshop has been a godsend for me.
