(and don't say IV, you haven't played it yet)
For me it's Vice City. The Miami Vice style and 80's soundtrack caused me to love every minute of it. Sill to this day my favorite console game of all time.
SA took me a long time to get started but at the end I loved it. I had a hard time getting into the ghetto-thug theme at first. In fact I played the game for a few hours at launch and put it down for weeks. I finally forced myself to play it again and the further I got in the better it got.
The original, love going round in a harvester in san andreas.

I was never able to play the "stories" games.

I will agree with Vice City. In terms of mission variety and side missions, it doesnt compare to San Andreas. Just the atmosphere is what made it so good for me. I love the 80s theme, the soundtrack was excellent (I bought the entire soundtrack package), and Ray Liotta finally made a worthwhile appearance since GoodFellas.
However when it comes to time invested, San Andreas takes the cake as I wasted 2 years of my life playing that game.
(1) GTA Vice City
(2) GTA III
(3) GTA San Andreas
(4) GTA 2
(5) GTA Liberty City Stories
(6) GTA
(7) GTA London
(8) GTA Vice City Stories
I did not care for Vice City Stories at all, even though I loved LCS. I just didn't dig the main character and his storyline (seriously, who gives a **** about Lance Vance's brother - I dont).

1. San Andreas: Had some good music, it was L A and vegas, how could I not love it, plus the character was black so that did it for me lol
2. Vice City: The music was the best, I had alot of fun with Vice city
3. GTA III: It was kool but didn't grab my attention like the others
4. GTA and GTA London(?): I remember these, I couldn't do the missions back then but I could kill lol
I didn't play the stories, I didn't see a reason to. I would get San Andreas stories but I doubt we'll see that one

Vice City was my first GTA game and it remains my favorite over all these years. Like blazsox, I've wasted more time on San Andreas, but the overall atmosphere of Vice City was awe-inspiring to say the least, for me. And as a GTA fan, did you know that I have yet to get halfway thru GTA III. I actually hated that game. Considering I went from Vice City-San Andreas- then back to GTA III, which was a big transition for me. Also, I have yet to play the "stories".
1. Vice City
2. San Andreas
3. GTA: III

If I had to choose I'd say Vice City, mainly for the 80s music. I could just never get into the GTA games unfortunately.

While I'm here --
1. Vice City
2. Liberty City Stories
3. GTA III
and San Andreas and Vice City Stories were mehlicious. SA was plain fugly and played horribly, and Vice City Stories was boring and uninspiring.

GTA II is my favorite in the series.
Came out when I was about 10 years old and had me hooked.

Gotta say Vice City as I'm a huge fan of the mob theme.

Vice City dominated, but GTA:III melted my face, it's the one that changed everything.

my favorite was GTA:3 i loved liberty city, and once it got into VC and SA it seemed like they started adding things for the sake of saying it was there not because it had anything to do with the game itself or help further it.
I'd probably have to say GTA3, but I truly love all of them a shitload.
The reason I like 3 so much is because going from GTA2 to GTA3 was amazing. From a crappy overhead view to a 3rd person game.

I'd have to say GTA:3, followed by GTA:SA.
I actually really liked GTA:1 too. It's a classic.

oddly enough i would consider gta3 more of a classic then 1 or 2, that seems to be when the series got real popular.

Yeah that's true, it wasn't too popular before that. I started playing the series about right before GTA2 came out, and I never thought it was that amazing until 3 came out.

Which GTA is your favorite
Crackdown! ;)
I actually Enjoyed Crackdown more than any GTA I've played. For GTA though, VC was pretty good.

Crackdown and GTA3 / GTA:SA are pretty much the same amount of fun to me, but I think it's the cheats of GTA that give it the extra advantage over Crackdown.
I mean, what's better than floating cars and tanks? Not much.:quagmire:

actually you can do all that stuff in crackdown with "key to the city" mode.
i like crackdown better for when i want to go on homicidal sprees,
however crackdown lacks any trace of a story.
GTA didn't have the best stories but it was something.
not only that but once your full agility in crackdown cars are useless as transport except for agency ones.
i liked that at any point in gta any car could be used as a viable getaway car.

Yeah. Nothing beats GTA's stories. San Andreas was a great story. Kinda like Four Brothers if you've ever seen it.
