There are going to be a few good fights on this card. I really believe Silva will keep his title. And im thinking Brandon Vera is going to take Sylvia but we all know anything can happen. Here is the fight card and also the rankings of the fighters in the main cards. The Okami fight should be good but the Japanese fighters have been struggling here in the UFC lately so hopefully he will turn that around.

Sometimes I wonder if the Pride guys struggle with the different settings they have in the UFC compared to Pride." Fan base , Locations, Cage vs Ring, Different rules" Seems like right now the only one really comfortable is Rampage. Mirko suffered his KO and hasn't been the same person since. " That goes for Chuck IMO also but I think he will pull out of that." So with all that said it will be an ok card probably not a buyer for me personally but. Ill hook yall up with the Play by Play the night of ;)

-Anderson Silva (#1 Middleweight in the World)* vs. Rich Franklin (#4 Middleweight in the World)*
-Tim Sylvia (#6 Heavyweight in the World)* vs. Brandon Vera
-Yushin Okami (#10 Middleweight in the World)* vs. Jason MacDonald
-Josh Burkman vs. Forrest Petz
-Jason Black vs. Matt Grice
-Alan Belcher vs. Kalib Starnes
-Jorge Gurgel vs. Alvin Robinson
-Eric Schafer vs. Stephan Bonnar
-Demian Maia vs. Ryan Jensen

"O yeah I talked to my buddy in the UFC this weekend and a little insider info he gave me was that the feared and #1 Ranked heavy weight fighter in all of MMA will be coming to the UFC after he competes in a Sambo competition the asked him not to be in LOL. But he is coming. This guy is a freaking beast he has been the reigning Heavy weight Champion since 2003 he plans for his first fight to be a Unification title fight against Randy Coutour"

What's the date for UFC 77? I hope we order it. There are a couple of fights that I haven't seen now, and I miss it!!!! And I miss the fun we have when the guys come over to watch it. Anyway, I want to see Silva, Franklin, and Sylvia fight.

Cincinnati Ohio. Less than a mile away.

The owner of the #1 UFC (later renamed MMA due to legal battles) fansite and blog sits behind me at work. http://www.mmajunkie.com

I have free tickets to the event and VIP pre-party.

I've met Rich Franklin a few times and he lives just up the road.

...yet I hate MMA and will not be attending. I disapprove of how it's ruined Boxing and real Martial Arts.

LOL Boxing ruined itself with thugs, Rapist, losers and money hungry arrogant people. There wouldn't be an uproar about MMA but poor little Jim Lampley cant stand the fact that more people watch MMA than boxing. And the fact that HBO is planning on signing the UFC for future events. How did it ruin Martial Arts? They are all very respectful to there disciplines and show great honor to there schools. I would probably say that Sherdog or MMA Weekly is a bigger site. Or at least thats where the real fighters go. Ill have to check the site your talking about.

Lady Akula the fight is on the 20th ;)

Boxing has been ruined at various times in it's history with fight fixes, ref tampering, Don King, etc...but the history and lineage always remained. Thats why I respect it, it's not some Johnny-come-lately passing fad. It's champions are household names. Ali, Lewis, Marciano, Leonard, De La Hoya...

As somebody that was big on Karate tournaments in the late 80's and early 90's I have more respect for structured single discipline competitions.

The whole idea of putting somebody in a hold and keeping them until the round expires doesn't appeal to me.

LOL MMA is no passing fad it is has been going on since the early 90's its also the fasting growing sport and the House hold names you give are so old there only memories..As far as History...I think all of these Martial Arts were formed long before English Pugilist came to be. Which there are boxers in MMA also. The only problem I have is you pay 50 dollars for one fight on boxing that will have maybe one good fight or hugging match being the Main card and some random no namers on the undercard. Now you pay 39 dollars for a UFC fight and get about 8 or 9 fights and over half are going to be nothing short of great.
I understand what your talking about as far as your Karate Tournaments. I grew up with the same thing but this sport takes all the styles and puts them together. As far as putting someone in a hold and waiting for the round to end LOL that could be either American or Greco Wrestling or BJJ all of which are joint Manipulative styles so they are going to be on the ground. Its all about your preference and obviously you dont like it so I respect that. There are a lot of people who do ;)

Sirharper, if you don't like MMA, fine. That's your own personal decision. By your arguments, it is obvious that you don't know enough about it to understand the sport, what it entails, or where it came from. And if you don't like MMA, there is no reason at all for you to come onto this thread, try to make yourself look important because you think you have contacts, and then insult the sport that we enjoy. We can respect your choice to not like MMA. Now please, respect our choice and leave us alone so we can discuss MAA in peace.

Lady Akula
10-12-2007, 04:46 PM
I really like Randy. He is a good fighter and a good man. It was nice having back, but I respect his decision to retire again. It takes real honesty, class, and self-awareness to know when it is time to leave. He is always going to be a well known name in the sport - which is further solidified by his choice to leave while he is on top. He showed the world that age is just a number.

I don't know what he was making compared to other fighters, but he deserves to get paid top dollar.

I'm going to miss him. I hope he will continue announcing!!

You're trying to play the classic "You just don't like it because you don't know what you're talking about" and "If you don't agree you should leave" cards? That's pretty weak. Try coming at me with some facts or evidence next time.

If MMA is so great why fear a constructive dialogue about it? I stated why I felt MMA was a passing fad, why I prefered boxing, and why I though single-discipline martial arts were better. Now you can try to tell me why I am wrong if you'd like but don't pull some insults and stunts to try to justify your position.

Get used to that happening with top names jumping ship. They might (I said might) self-implode in the coming couple of years.

Lady Akula

Sirharper, I don’t fear a constructive dialogue about MMA. I actually have had many of those conversations. However, I have seen your insulting "debates" on other topics and have no desire to sink to that level. There is no point in debating with someone who won't listen with an open mind. You even say in your response that I am welcome to tell you that you are wrong. It’s not about being right or wrong. It’s not right or wrong to enjoy a sport. It’s about your opinion differing from ours. You don’t seem to understand that. Therefore, there is no way to have a constructive dialogue. The point of my post was to ask you to leave us alone. We don’t mind a difference in opinion. We don’t always agree on everything in these threads, but we don’t insult each other when discussing our difference in opinion. We don’t need you insulting MMA (or us) while trying to pick fights on these threads like you do everywhere else. If you don’t like MMA then why read our threads anyway? If you choose to continue in this behavior, I will be more than happy to ignore all of your posts.

By the way, nothing in my earlier post to you was an insult. I was stating facts. The comment that you made “The whole idea of putting somebody in a hold and keeping them until the round expires doesn't appeal to me.” shows that you don’t understand MMA. The sport is much more than that.

LOL Akula its really pointless to even reply. This comes from someone who thinks MMAJunkie is the Number one MMA site LMAO. If its such a dying fad how come I have never heard The announcers in any MMA fight saying O this could be the Fight that saves Us poor little boxing counted on The Oscar De La Cross Dresser's fight to do it and well it looks like MMA is still by far the bigger sport. Just do us a favor and don't reply because this is a forum you will not be able to argue in.

As far as Coutour leaving and more following LOL thats one fighter who maybe has one fight left in his career. There are people dying to make it to the UFC.

She doesn't fear anything you say about MMA that has nothing to do with it. Its the fact that every thread that is posted you come in and have some negative thought about it...And besides that you never stated one fact on why you think its a passing fad. So again I say dont come into these threads and start stuff. Because im the Biggest MMA Fanboi you have ever seen.

Sirharper

Just in time for UFC 77, look what my friends at Mickey's sent over...

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b98/slagpatrol/10-15-07_0927.jpg

That stack was originally 3x that size before we tore into it today. All were special UFC 77 packaging.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b98/slagpatrol/10-15-07_0924.jpg

Then I got 7 cases of merch to pass out as well, still have 3 left. I should give some away to a deserving U360 fan. I got trucker hats, t shirts, hoodies, polos, bottle koozies, skull caps, humorous 40oz bags...good stuff.

As far as the fighters go you gotta take into account those are only 4oz gloves so there is a lot better chance the punch will land harder than it would with your typical 10 or 12 oz Boxing glove. There all tough guys.

Lady Akula
10-19-2007, 11:21 PM
It's a simple matter of pressure points. Hit the right spot with the right force, the biggest & strongest guy in the world will fall. Boxer's gloves are thicker and cushion the blow more than an MMA glove.
