What’s in my PAX bag?

I’m a nerd.  I’m a geek.  Let’s go ahead and get those two things out of the way.  To expand on those though, I’d say I’m a gaming slash electronic slash tech nerd type geek guy.  I like my electronic toys and devices that’s all.  Having created this site and having spent a lot of time within the gaming community, I’ve been fortunate to receive a lot of cool toys and devices.

Quite honestly, nearly everything you see me talk about on the site I use in the day to day business of running this site.  All of it helps me be a better Velvet Voice. (hahaha)

I thought it’d be cool to show you what’s in my PAX PRIME bag for those interested in knowing what I plan on taking with me on the trip.  So what’s in my bag besides clothes and toothpaste???  Take a look!

Plantronics Marque M155 – I can’t walk around with the phone in my ear throughout the show so the Marque will help me stay hands free while communicating with the various other nerds and developers on deck.  It’s also a sexy looking bluetooth earpiece so my ear should be very attractive to those walking by.  I have the black one but the white one is equally awesome.

PAX PRIME 2012 kicks off this week

It’s PAX PRIME 2012 week and I’m gearing up to attend the show alongside other cools peeps from Unscripted 360, Dangerdoll, StingJR and Deadly Cyclone.  We’ll all be walking around playing a lot of games and looking at a ton of cool shit.

If there’s something at PAX that you want either of us to take a look at, don’t hesitate to ask.  It should be a very fun PAX this year.  I’m looking forward to getting my hands on Borderlands 2, HALO 4, Plantronics’ Commander headset, Bethesda’s Dishonored, Medal of Honor Warfighter and much more!

I’ll also be posting a cool event for any PAX PRIME attendee to participate in so stay tuned for that!  I don’t know if Microsoft will be covering the event via the Xbox 360 so yours truly and my other culprits will be on the scene to share anything that we can.

I’ll post ways for you to contact me for immediate responses this week … be on the lookout for that!  Get ready for PAX PRIME 2012!

Final Fantasy XIII-2, Square’s best yet?

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is a direct sequel to Final Fantasy XIII.  Many might not think much about that but fans of the series understand that direct sequels have never been what the franchise is about.  So it’s definitely nice to have a continuation here.

Set three years after the events of Final Fantasy XIII, Lighting the protagonist of the original game, has disappeared into an unknown world.  Her younger sister Serah Farron, a returning character from the original title, and a young boy named Noel Kreiss attempt to find Lightning and reunite with their missing friend.

Best of PAX Prime 2011

This year’s PAX Prime was perhaps the biggest ever.  There were several games that stood out from the crowd that I had to make mention of.  I use the Best of PAX feature to showcase the games that I think will end up being the most played in your console from this event.  Well let’s just say they’ll be the most played in MY console at least.

If you’re interested in a less technical recap of PAX Prime that’s filled with the best of the “other stuff” from the event, then make sure you check out Deacon’s best of stuff list

Trials Evolution
Developer: RedLynx
Publisher: Xbox Live Arcade
Release Date: TBA

This game was one of the biggest surprises of the expo.  I had no idea it was going to be at PAX and when I walked by the display, I did a mad dash to it.  It did not disappoint.  It had all of the frustration and awesomeness of the first one but multiplied by more levels of awesome.

Battlefield 3
Developer: DICE
Publisher: EA
Release Date: October 25

If you’re expecting a game that will not only give Modern Warfare 3 a run for its money but might damn well take its lunch money, then Battlefield 3 is that game.  You can read what I thought of BF3 during my exclusive visit.

Batman: Arkham City
Developer: RockSteady
Publisher: Warner Bros.
Release Date: October 18

Let’s go through a checklist of things required to make a game fanfriggintastic.  Awesome visuals?  Check.  Awesome gameplay?  Check.  More Awesome gameplay?  Check.  Even more awesome gameplay?  Check…check…check.

Batman: Arkham City is going to kick much ass when it releases.  Not only is the Batman back but he has a few friends now and he has even more gadgets to help him do his “bat” thing.  I loved every second of my time with the game.  And it has Dax, the insane in the membrane developer involved so what more do you need?

Developer: iD Software
Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
Release Date: October 4

I wasn’t expecting much from RAGE to be honest.  But boy was I blown away by how precise and detailed this game was.  The story, the graphics and the AI are just damn sick.  The AI in fact might just be a bit too good in this game.  They’re some rabid parkour hybrid bandits in Rageville I see.  I don’t know if it was me or my skills but these guys were seriously hard to kill.  They just wouldn’t stop moving and evading!

It was a lot of fun though and RAGE is easily in the top 5 of my “must have” list.
