Rock Band

If lines for miles are any indication, I’d say that Rock Band was a highly sought after title during the show.  Hundreds of fans stood in line for a chance to rock out on stage with the game.  I had a few sessions of rockitude myself so I know why they stood there.

The Rock Band team put on an exclusive show for Unscripted 360 fans that even had the CEO of Harmonix rockin’ the stage.  If you missed that, you can check it out here.  I had my doubts about the “band” element in Rock Band but after trying it, it was clear that those doubts were pointless.

There’s nothing like having a ”one of a kind moment” in life.  During PAX at the Rock Band booth, I had that moment.  The guys from Harmonix featuring the CEO himself, Alex Rigopulos, and Phil from the band Shaimus got on stage to rock out with Rock Band!  It was an exclusive treat for Unscripted 360 and one that simply brought the house down.

Having the CEO take the stage and jam for the fans isn’t something you see everyday.  And he didn’t hesitate at all.  You’d think that a CEO would be all business and no play but Alex was damn good.  He got his drummin’ on.  Sean B., the Harmonix Community Manager, was a true rocker with his tattoo and cut-off shirt!  Mixing it up with the community is what U360 is about and it was refreshing to see them take the challenge and kick ass with it.

I know you’re ready for this Rock Band jam session.  I want to thank the Harmonix crew and Tracie for throwing in this special band for Unscripted 360 and the fans in attendance.  I left the Rock Band booth extremely impressed and ready for the release.  Check out the video below!

Eidos was at PAX sharing some up close and personal time with their title Kane & Lynch: Dead Men.  It’s being developed by IO Interactive.  The game follows the path of two men; a flawed mercenary and a medicated psychopath.  If you’re a fan of the movie Heat, then you’ll love this title.  In speaking with David Bamberger, Marketing Manager at Eidos, Heat was definitely an instrument of inspiration for the game.  When I played I almost immediately felt like I was Val Kilmer walking down the streets after a bank robbery.

Kane & Lynch: Dead Men

One cool thing I found out was that Kane & Lynch will be coming to a theater near you at some point.  The movie rights to the game and its title have been sold and a movie is being developed.  We had a conversation about who would be the best actors for the roles of Kane and Lynch.  Who do you think would be best for the roles?

Ready to see some action?  Check out the video below. And for more videos, check out the U360 TV Channel.

I’m finally home in Dallas and because I’m so happy about being here, I wanted to share something that gave me a good laugh while at the Penny Arcade Expo.  This is some gameplay I captured of Sega’s Bleach: Shattered Blade for the Nintendo Wii.  I sat there both amazed and afraid of what I saw.  Someone please tell me that we don’t really want the developers and publishers in the gaming industry to adopt a “port from the Wii” attitude.

Enjoy the video below and also the last few photos from PAX.  Stay tuned for more from my PAX escapade.

Sierra had a release party for World In Conflict and because the “scenery” was so interesting at the party, I decided to attend.  The party had an awesome style and presentation!  I even saw Heath Ledger (the new Joker in the next Batman).  Ok, I didn’t really see Heath Ledger but there was someone who looked just like him.

Rest is for the weak.  Attention soldiers!  Enjoy the photos.  I wanted to send a special thanks to Miss Ravenna Black for making the crew feel good about being captured soldiers.

Day 2 of PAX was packed with plenty of goodies!  Inside you’ll find the Big Daddy, Rooster Teeth, Assassin’s Creed, TriXie and a lot more!

I think today will be video day.  It won’t be completely video day but yesterday I gave you plenty of photos so I’ll try to give you videos now.  Up first I was in the Microsoft booth capturing some footage of Project Gotham Racing 4, Viva Pinata Party Animals, Need for Speed ProStreet and more.

Make sure you check out the smoke effect in ProStreet.  Speaking with one of the EA guys, they gave a lot of attention to the smoke as well as….prepare for it…damage effects to the car!  Yes, ProStreet will have damage so no more running into the walls with no consequence.

It’s Saturday, August 25 and that marks the second day of the Penny Arcade Expo.  I’m here in the media/press room trying to wrap up a few articles for everyone before I step out on the exhibition floor.  Media and press get into PAX an hour before everyone else so I’m trying to enjoy the calm before the storm so to speak.

I was at a party last night with several people from the community celebrating an event in TriXie’s life.  I had a great time and for some reason everyone wanted to buy me drinks.  I figured I’d oblige them as it was a party and I was there to have fun.  So on came the drinks from the guys at XBL Radio and even the president of the World Cyber Games offered me one.  There’s nothing like talking football with the WCG guys.  You had to be there to know what I mean.

Here’s a cool shot of me throwing down on some Dark Sector!  I’ll post some impressions of that soon.  I’ll try to grab more videos today which is gonna take more trips to the media room but hey I love you guys so I’m on the job!

Deacon and Dark Sector

TriXie moderated a panel discussion on “Women in Gaming” that featured Roulette from Ubisoft and a few other representatives of the “gamer girl” movement.  I sat in and listened to see what they all had to say about the position of women both past and headed towards the future.

I wish I would’ve had some audio from the panel because TriXie but yours truly on the spot just as the panel was being opened up for discussion amongst the crowd.  All I heard was “DeaconBlade sit down” as the audience laughed.  Thanks for the spotlight TriXie!

I’m here now for Day 2 of U360 @ PAX so keep it locked for more interesting photos and game impressions.  I played a lot yesterday and I’m trying to wrap that up to include a few videos (if possible).

I’m here all fresh and clean finally!  It’s been a lot of fun so far.  I can’t even count the number of games I’ve played.  I finally play Viva Pinata Party Animals and the new Need for Speed ProStreet…not to mention some Dark Sector from D3Publisher.

I even let my inner rock star out with some Rock Band action.  The game is a lot of fun when you have a “band” with you.  The Fender Stratocaster felt and played really good.  I’m not so sure where I stand in the battle of Guitar Hero 3 vs. Rock Band.

I’m preparing for some sit down time on panels as well as some party time tonight!  Here’s a round of photos from Day 1 at the Penny Arcade Expo.  Enjoy!
