Take a ride with the Need for Speed franchise.

EA, it’s in the Independence Day sale!

Say what you will about Electronic Arts but they’ve just released a pretty massive sale to celebrate the July 4th holiday weekend.  You can get iPhone, iPad, PC and Xbox Live Arcade games for a fraction of what their original cost was.  I’m staring at Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit for $17.99.  Dead Space 2 is up for the same price.  What’s the deal with not offering the Xbox 360 console counterparts?

Check out the sale right here and see if you find anything interesting and worth buying.  I’m sure you can find something to increase your gaming library with.

Need for Speed: The Run

Using the groundbreaking Frostbite 2 engine, Need for Speed The Run will set the bar with unparalleled visual quality and enhanced physics. Need for Speed The Run will also take immersive storytelling to a new level with cutting edge performances that will draw the player into a world with no speed limits, rules or allies. Autolog, the Need for Speed franchise’s revolutionary social competition functionality, is back and better in Need for Speed The Run as it will continue to reinvent how people play games, track career progression and compare game stats.

That’s the PR spill on the latest Need for Speed title from Electronic Arts.  You can check out a trailer below.  It looks like they’re calling upon their inner “Driver” fantasy with this one as it seems like you’re “on the run”.

“This is the year that Need for Speed goes to the next level,” said Jason DeLong, Executive Producer at EA. “We think that Need for Speed The Run is going to surprise people with its intense, thrilling story and big action feel. But the game would be nothing without hot cars and crazy-fast chases. So that is what we’re delivering — explosive racing that will have players flirting with disaster at 200-miles an hour.”

It hits store shelves on November 15, 2011 so get ready to run!

Shift 2 Unleashed Limited Edition, minus the Need for Speed

Have you played Need for Speed: Shift?  It was a redirection of the Need for Speed franchise to more of a simulation.  If you were ready for a sequel then you have it with Shift 2 Unleashed minus the “Need for Speed”.  Perhaps this was done so that it wouldn’t seem like there were too many Need for Speed titles coming especially after the recent release of Hot Pursuit.

Well today EA unvelied some details on the Limited Edition version of the game.  Players who pre-order the game will receive immediate access to three exclusive cars ready to roar off the line: the Nissan Silvia spec.R Aero (S15), the Alfa Romeo Giulietta QV, and the Lamborghini Murciélago LP640.  SHIFT 2 UNLEASHED also delivers the rush of an authentic driver’s battle with exclusive access to 40 career events.  Launching in Spring 2011, SHIFT 2 UNLEASHED is the perfect simulation complement to the action racer Need for Speed Hot Pursuit which introduced a simple yet brilliant rivalry-generating technology called Autolog.

Thanksgiving Gaming Guide 2010

Guess who’s back?  It’s the Thanksgiving Gaming Guide 2010 edition!  Most of us are preparing to consume large amounts of turkey, stuffing, dressing, cranberry sauce and large amounts of pie tomorrow (and for leftovers).  Tomorrow I’m going to enjoy some family time on Thanksgiving Day and I wanted to leave my famous Thanksgiving Gaming Guide to assist you in properly implementing some gaming during the day.

This method of proper gaming on Thanksgiving Day actually begins late night tonight as the preparation for the feast begins.

Wednesday, November 24th 9PM – 11PM

Pac-Man Championship Edition DX – I ain’t afraid of no ghosts and you shouldn’t be either.  Tighten up your reflexes and chomp down those pellets and ghosts.  Better reflexes will help you defend your dinner rolls from the likes of old Cousin Joey who likes to eat all the rolls.

First Impressions – Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit

Last week was like a whirl wind. I had to get ready to fly off to England. The crew of Criterion gave us the invite to England to participate in the community day for Need For Speed: Hot pursuit releasing today! This was my first trip abroad and I was super stoked about going. Even though it was only for a couple of days my suitcase bulged with “just in case” apparel. On my connecting flight there, I had the pleasure of a drive by meeting with Lady Luck of Gamertag Radio. We greeted each other and had small chit chat briefly, not actually discussing games. It wasn’t until we landed and we both were waiting for our car that we realized we were headed to the same place. It’s amazing that because of gaming, I have Instant friends all over the world! Both of us toured England for much of that day in awe of how surreal it seemed to be there at that moment, having a blast in such a wonderful city in the name of gaming!

The following day was all business. This was a great chance to chat with the Criterion Games crew and pick their brains to find out their inspiration for this latest installment of the Need For Speed Franchise. We had a great discussion with Criterion Games’ Creative Director Craig Sullivan. They really wanted to emphasize to us how this was their take on Need for Speed and how they wanted to get back to its early roots.

I was absolutely ecstatic to get my hands on this latest Need for speed.  Here are my first impressions.

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit demo available

Yep that’s right..the Criterion Games developed Need for Speed Hot Pursuit has a limited time demo out right now!

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit will transform online entertainment for this generation. Criterion Games is redefining the meaning of cops versus racers by providing players with the opportunity to play a full career as either a cop or a racer, advancing through the ranks by accruing bounty.  Players will experience stunning speeds, takedowns and getaways as they chase, battle, escape or bust their buddies.

Yes that was PR Speak but it sounded pretty good didn’t it?  Anyway, I’m pretty excited to get back to the cop chasing!  The demo is a whopper at 1.4GB so be sure you have enough space.
