See the larger image comparison here. It’s a lot of fun looking back on previous years and seeing how things have changed. I got some screenshots from Namco last night on Soul Calibur for the Xbox Live Arcade and decided to make a little comparison image. I looked at the XBLA screens for Soul Calibur and thought to myself, “wow, how far we’ve come in a short time”. It’s hard to believe the jump from 1999 to now.
Soul Calibur is set for a Summer release on Xbox Live Arcade. I’ll update this with a price point once I get word back from Namco but in the meantime, let me know what you think of the comparison. People do get smarter it seems. (smile)
It looks like we’ll have more tennis to choose from this year. Featuring the biggest names in tennis including Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova, highly realistic visuals, a host of gameplay enhancements and online play via Xbox LIVE, Smash Court Tennis 3 will be lobbing and smashing its way into North American retailers in August 2008.

The first in the revered tennis simulation series for the new console generation, Smash Court Tennis 3 for Xbox 360 tests the player’s skills against 16 of the world’s finest international tennis players. Gameplay modes include Tutorial, Arcade, Pro-Tour, and Exhibition mode where up to four players can go head to head offline. The game also features an online mode allowing players to play online via Xbox LIVE online entertainment network.
In addition to Xbox LIVE voice chat and rankings, players can take on opponents in online tournaments and in a range of different matches. Online doubles matches let players team up side by side for a long distance match against another pair, bringing the action and interaction alive like never before. Will it be game, set and match for the Smash Court Tennis debut? Who knows but it better have the Williams sisters in it!
Things are looking very good in Soul Calibur IV land. These new screenshots are very impressive and when you add that fact to having Yoda himself in the game, then it makes for an interesting game to watch for. The new set of screens confirms the appearance of Maxi, Mina and Yun-Seong as playable characters and provides a glimpse of two new never-before-seen environments.

I feel the need…the need for speed! But I guess in this case I feel the need for more speed or at least new speed. Namco Bandai Games let the cat out of the bag about the six new plane variants for Ace Combat® 6: Fires of Liberation™ that will be available for download from the Xbox Live Marketplace on Wednesday, December 19. That’s next week for those of you not keeping score. Several of these planes feature memorable designs from previous games in the Ace Combat franchise, letting players continue the aerial adventures of their favorite characters from the series in the game’s single player and online multiplayer modes.
There’s also a Team Battle mode making its way to Ace Combat 6 in the coming weeks but who wants to wait weeks for that when it’ll be only days for more planes!

I’m skeptical about this game and I really don’t know why. I didn’t enjoy the previous offering in this series and in fact, it left a bad taste in my mouth. Perhaps Namco Bandai can redeem themselves with this title next year when it releases. I hope they leave the black bars alone!

It’s still a way off but I know all you Soul Edge diehards won’t mind. Namco released a new batch of screenshots for Soul Calibur IV so check them out.
The epic struggle between Soul Calibur and Soul Edge continues in Soul Calibur IV, the next installment to the world renowned weapon-based fighting series for the Xbox 360 (also on PS3). Delivering a robust offering of new gameplay modes, characters and enhanced features, Soul Calibur IV will set the bar of excellence for all next generation fighting games when it is released in 2008.

I won’t pretend to know what this game is all about but thankfully there are things in the world like the Xbox Live Marketplace. I’ll finally be able to see what all the fuss is as a demo for Namco Bandai’s Beautiful Katamari arrives! I’ve also included a video of the intro to Beautiful Katamari so you can get a glimpse of the game.
Beautiful Katamari is set to release this Fall for the Xbox 360 with more new features than you can roll onto a single Katamari. Joining the party are a bunch of new cousins with their own unique animations and personalities, as well all-new levels to explore and new items to roll up. For the first time ever, the series also heads online, where up to four players around the globe can compete against each other in frantic multiplayer matches. Offline, players can still compete with each other or put aside grudges and work together, rolling one gigantic Katamari in Co-Op mode.
The Xbox 360 is about to have an exciting love affair with the RPG genre. I say that it’s about time especially when it’s a love affair with an RPG that looks as beautiful as Namco Bandai’s 360 exclusive, Eternal Sonata. Most of you should know that a comment like that from me is worth its weight in gold because I don’t usually smile at the genre. The new screenshots are taken from the game’s fourth and fifth chapters and offer gamers a glimpse of Eternal Sonata’s lush and vibrant visuals, eclectic characters, and action-packed combat system. (yes that was from the press release)

Featuring an intuitive and strategic combat system that keeps the action flowing and takes into account elements such as light and darkness, an intriguing story told through real-time cutscenes, an unforgettable cast of characters and incredibly
detailed environments to explore, Eternal Sonata is set to deliver one of the most engrossing RPG experiences of the year for the Xbox 360.
Eternal Sonata releases exclusively this Fall for the Xbox 360. You can view the latest Eternal Sonata trailer here on Unscripted 360. What say you RPG fans?
