Ok.  I need all my Xbox Ambassadors out there to gear up for a Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack celebration courtesy of my BFF TriXie over at Xbox.  If you’re planning to buy the Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack next week and want to step up for this mission then just post your Gamertag.  This goes down on April 27th so you’ll have a bit of time to buy the map pack.

You’ll need to free up at least 10 slots on your friend’s list as well.  Again, any Xbox Ambassador who plans to buy the Legendary Map Pack and could spare some time on April 27th between 6 - 8PM PST, leave your Gamertag here or send a message to me on Xbox Live.

The map pack has 3 maps. (Standoff, Rat’s Nest and Foundry)  It’s now free to download whereas it used to be 800 Microsoft Points.  Free is always more attractive isn’t it?  Ofcourse it is so head out to the Xbox Live Marketplace and grab it now!

Remember that one time when I told you the Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack would be releasing soon?  The “soon” in that is April 15 so get your plasma grenades ready.

Available exclusively on Xbox LIVE Marketplace for 800 Microsoft Points, the Legendary Map Pack will introduce three new maps to the title’s award-winning multiplayer experience, Ghost Town, Avalanche, and one map yet to be revealed.  And with the addition of some exciting Forge options, fans can explore new ways to create and share their custom Halo 3 content.

In case you hadn’t seen and because Spring is fast approaching, Bungie has details on the first map, Ghost Town, in their Legendary Map Pack due soon.  Fans of Halo 3 are probably itching to get this new map pack after spending tons of hours on the previous Heroic Map Pack.  Remember, those of you who haven’t downloaded the Heroic Map Pack will be able to do so for free this Spring as well.

Q: What’s the fictional premise behind Ghost Town?

Vic: Ghost Town is the fragmented ruins of a small 24th century water purification complex that geographically lies just North and West of the jungle foothills hydroelectric facility from the Sierra 117 mission. The well-protected facility built into a shallow ravine was once home to the Global Water Campaign, where the still somewhat-pure Kilimanjaro meltwater was transported via pipelines from the river and directed to this small outpost where it became further purified, and then transported via GWC trans-African pipelines along the Tsavo Highway for distribution throughout the entire continent.

The Halo 3 Legendary Edition is on sale right now for $59.82 at Wal-Mart.  You can have it shipped to a store near you or delivered straight to your address for a faster return. It’s one of those deals you blink a few times at.  Who’s going to play Santa and score this puppy for old Deacon!?  (smile)

This is just in time for the Christmas season to make one of your close friends happy for the holidays.  Get it while it’s available!

The Halo 3 theater and all that encompasses it is truly amazing.  It allows you to capture crazy moments and share them with the world.  Check out my good friend ZaaM IT as he shows you the proper way to board a Ghost 10 feet in the air!  I won’t pretend to have any decent amount of Halo 3 skills to pull this off.  The music kicks major bootie in the clip.

It looks like being safe in the air is no longer safe. I need to up my game.

If I didn’t have the press release to prove it, I may not have believed this but it’s true. I suggest you get your skillz up ladies and gents.

The Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) is hosting a million dollar Halo 3 competition at the Extreme Winter Championships taking place Tuesday, December 18 to Saturday, December 22, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Dallas, Texas.  Yes, it’s going down in my town so you know I’ll be there.

The $1,000,000 Halo 3 competition is being organized by X Factor Tournament, a new e-sports management organization in exclusive partnership with the CPL.  The winner of the $1,000,000 competition will receive a $250,000 instant cash payout at the CPL Winter event. Other prizes will be paid to at least 64 places. The competition is open to gamers worldwide and does not require pre-qualification or previous tournament experience.

Angel Munoz, Founder and President of the CPL said, “We are thrilled to host this enormous $1,000,000 Halo 3 open competition and to announce it on the tenth year anniversary of our first event. X Factor Tournament has deposited $1,000,000 to a designated bank account for prize payment, making it the largest videogame competition ever.”

The online registration is now open.  There’s more tournament, prize and registration information available at www.halo3competition.com.

Are you ready for more of The Edition Examiner?  Ofcourse you are!  I told you I’d be back with a look at the Halo 3 Limited Edition and here it is.  It’s time to dig in and make the case for it.

The Edition Examiner covers two important things; craftsmanship and extras.  I’ll use a 5-point scale to gauge whether these types of editions are truly worthy of being called such.

Sometimes I marvel at how I get these things right when the interweb starts spinning with rumors.  In my recent article, Bungie Leaving Microsoft - So What, I predicted that this was nothing more than the usual “we want to explore our creativity” type of thing.  I submit to you the following quote from my article.

“They may have a case of the “big head” disease and want to all form their own little independent company that allows them to better showcase their creativity etc…” said Deacon.

And now I present to you the words from Bungie Studios in today’s press release detailing the Bungie and Microsoft separation.

“This exciting evolution of our relationship with Microsoft will enable us to expand both creatively and organizationally in our mission to create world-class games,” said Harold Ryan, studio head for Bungie.

Sound like something you’ve already heard?  I simply say good luck to them but if you read the rest of my original article, you’ll understand where this all might lead.
