I’ve seen some cool prizes before and this one just about trumps them all for Xbox.com’s All-Nighter fests.  Xbox, Toyota and Peavy have teamed up to grant 24 lucky Guitar Hero III players a most awesome prize.  Glaze at the prize below.  Crafted from a real-wood, life-size Peavey guitar and modified for play with guitar-based music video games, this custom Peavey AG RiffMaster guitar controller features the sleek finish, dimensions and feel of a real Peavey guitar to provide a truly authentic music video game experience.

The event is on the weekend of April 26-27 so make sure at some point you’re rocking on these two days!

[Update] Just confirmed with TriXie that these custom kick ass guitars are indeed WIRELESS!  That makes these 24 custom exclusives even hotter!  They won’t be anywhere for sale so make sure you rock out for your chance to win one.

The folks from Activision sent word on a special pre-order promotion going on with Guitar Hero: Aerosmith.  Guitar Hero: Aerosmith features songs spanning their long chart-topping career as well as hits from their favorite groups like The Clash, Cheap Trick, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts and more.  Pre-ordering will give you access to a special bundle which includes guitar, the exclusive Aerosmith faceplate, an Aerosmith tour book and of course, the game.  (and don’t have a panic, the Guitar Hero III axe still works with GH: Aerosmith so you can simply buy the game alone)

Aerosmith Faceplate

Pricing is as follows:

$99 for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii, $89 for PlayStation 2 wireless and $109 for the two-guitar (wired) PlayStation 2 bundle which includes both a black and silver guitar.  I’m not sure if the pricing or bundle will change if you don’t pre-order.  I’ll see if I can find out those details.  That faceplate is rather sexy but I think I’m good without it.

[Update] I confirmed with the folks behind the news and the Aerosmith faceplate will not be sold separately.  The only way to get it, is to pre-order.  And the pricing is also only a pre-order bundle deal.

I was going to post some screenshots for Guitar Hero: Aerosmith but they really aren’t what you haven’t seen before in previous Guitar Hero titles so I decided to show off the new logo instead.  If you don’t believe me about the screenshots, then take a look for yourself.

My friends at Gamertag Radio sent word to me about a special event going down in Florida next month to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Gamers getting together to help promote something positive is always good in my book.

One of my very good Gamerchix friends, kikikat, let me know about a contest she’s having involving a very hot game and an even hotter woman some would say.  I think it’s a nice little pairing of the two.  She’s in need of a logo and she’s giving the lucky person who comes up with the best design, a pretty awesome prize.  Read up on how to win Guitar Hero 3 signed by Carmen Electra.

Logo Entry Rules:

- You can submit 1-3 designs
- Must be .gif or .png
- Submit to feedback@breakingthegame.com with the subject “Logo Contest”

They’re also randomly giving away Microsoft Points and an Xbox Original, Sid Meier’s Pirates.  I hope you designers out there are gearing up for this.  (or not because that means my chances of winning increase)

To celebrate the recently announced ground-breaking collaboration with Aerosmith, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock fans will have the opportunity to download and jam to Aerosmith’s “Dream On.”  The song will be available for free from February 16-18 so make sure you’re rockin’ out on those days to score the free song.

I’m really surprised at the announcement and I’m wondering if there’s enough Aerosmith appeal to entice gamers to buy a game dedicated to them.  Oh well, you get a free song so yay.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith

In a really surprising move and something that even shook me when I read it, Activision announces Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, the first game built around the legendary music of America’s Greatest Rock ‘N Roll Band: Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer.  Slated for release this June, this latest installment from the franchise with the #1 best-selling video game in 2007, puts players in the shoes of Perry (guitar), Whitford (guitar) and Hamilton (bass), as they rock out alongside frontman Tyler and drummer Kramer.  Gamers will experience Aerosmith’s GRAMMY® winning career, from their first gig to becoming rock royalty, in a way that no other entertainment vehicle offers.

“Having a game built around Aerosmith has been a huge honor and really a great experience for us,” says Joe Perry. “We’ve put a lot of ideas into the game so that fans can have fun interacting with our music, getting inside our body of work and learning about the band’s history.”

Rating Guide: How I Review Games

Review:

It’s the musical icon of gaming and it’s back for more.  This time all the legends are coming out to bring all the dreams of would-be rockers to light.  Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock continues with the musical magic that fans have come to know and love.  If it ain’t broke then why bother fixing it is what I say.  Are you ready to rock this review?

Gameplay, Graphics and Sound

Guitar Hero III does all of the same things it’s been great at over the years and adds a few things to keep itself fresh until the next launch in the series.  Your fret buttons, activating Star Power, strumming and all out shredding are still in.  Plus, you now have a battle mode and a co-op career to enjoy.  The co-op career has songs unavailable in single play so be sure to grab a friend and play through it.  The best part is that you can do all this online for the first time as well!  I’ll have more on that in Xbox Live Extras.

The battle mode is a hectic one on one battle against a friend to see who can cause the other to completely melt down first.  The object of the mode is to finish your competition as quickly as possible by rockin’ them out.  You do this with certain power-ups given when completing a set of strings.  Activating each power-up is just like activating Star Power (raise your guitar).  You can activate a lefty flip to screw up those right handed players, give them a power overload or cause double button vision etc.  It’s some hectic fun.
