Rating Guide: How I Review Games

Review:

First thing first.  This is not a Krull remake.  Second thing second.  Hayden Tenno is possibly the only pretty boy killer in video games.  Ok, now that those things are out of the way allow me to say that Dark Sector is one of my favorite action games on the Xbox 360 now.  Could it be because I’ve never quite enjoyed a slow motion limb slicing like this?  Or could it be because I’ve never quite enjoyed setting someone on fire in slow motion like this?

It’s probably both of the above plus a few other things that Dark Sector provided.  Digital Extremes and D3Publisher of America have set a pretty good foundation with Dark Sector if it’s ever to be a franchise.  Wanna know more?  Of course you do!

Dark Sector Producer Q&A with Digital Extremes.  The release is getting closer and I went deep undercover to dig into one of this year’s highly anticipated titles.  It’s been on the minds of many for a while and it even made its way on my Best of PAX feature a few months ago.  Have a seat and enjoy the article before the March 25th release of the game.

I know quite a few people are waiting to see how this game stacks up and it looks like you’ll have your chance in a few weeks.  D3Publisher of America, Inc. today announced that Dark Sector will ship to retail stores in North America on March 25, 2008 for the Xbox 360.

“Dark Sector fans have been waiting for this moment and we’re pleased to say that after months of tweaking and polishing, the game is ready to entertain and wow gamers,” said Peter Andrew, VP of product development, D3PA. “Digital Extremes has poured their heart and soul into this game and it shows through compelling gameplay and absolutely stunning graphics.”

Utilizing the Evolution Engine, proprietary next-gen technology developed by Digital Extremes, Dark Sector is an all-new and original action-thriller designed exclusively for next-generation consoles.  A dark, gritty experience packed with fast action, incredible superpowers and an engaging story, Dark Sector represents the next evolution of gaming.

I know there are plenty of Achievement nuts out there and I just got a list of Dark Sector’s Achievements for you all to dissect.  And yes, the list contains the “Entitlements” for PS3 owners which as you can see are no different in what you must do to obtain them from Achievements.  (how original of the PS3 with the word I know)

The list is divided into the following categories: Level Completion, Combat and Multiplayer.

There’s an interesting article coming out of IGN Australia that D3Publisher’s Dark Sector is just a tad bit too violent for Aussie land.  For instance, ”When Hayden cuts off his opponent’s limb with the glaive, large amounts of blood spray forth from the stump and the injured person screams in agony which increases the impact.”

Dark Sector

This is one of the examples given in a report that cites the numerous accounts of violence in the game.  The game may by delayed but if nothing can be done to tone down what’s considered “too violent” for Australia, then the game won’t receive a classification.  So there’s a potential for the game to not be released at all.  What say you?  Do you fear the glaive?

I’m a big Smallville fan so you can imagine how much more excited in Dark Sector I was when D3Publisher announced that Michael Rosenbaum, aka Lex Luthor, would be the voice of Hayden.  They sent along a cool video of Lex in the studio that I have for you guys and girls to check out.

D3Publisher of America unveils the 4th of 5 webisodes surrounding Hayden and their upcoming title, Dark Sector.  I’ve been following this one and what they’re doing with the glaive that Hayden uses.  The upgrades/powers seem pretty interesting so far and the game’s release is right around the corner.

Dark Sector is D3 Publisher’s upcoming action-thriller for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 that thrusts players into the role of Hayden Tenno, an elite black-ops agent sent on a dangerous mission into a decaying Eastern European city that hides a deadly Cold War secret.  When Hayden awakens after an attack by to find part of his body altered by an infection that grants him inhuman abilities, he must learn to evolve along with his powers, to survive and to become a hero.

February is right around the corner and that means it’ll be time for Hayden and his glaive.  Will this contend for top honors next year?  It has that dark, gritty feel to it that just might make it stand out amongst the rest next year.  D3Publisher of America has the latest batch of media for it so check the screenshots out.  I haven’t forgotten about the Q&A.  I guess they want to return it once the game is closer so stand by.

D3Publisher unveiled the second webisode for the upcoming game, Dark Sector. Brutal and sexy returns! You can check out the first webisode in this series right here if you missed out. I’m expecting some good things from Dark Sector. If they can fine tune the controls and make the glaive powers interesting, this could be one hell of a ride.

D3Publisher of America sent the first of many webisodes surrounding the upcoming title, Dark Sector.  You all should remember my impressions of Dark Sector a little while ago from PAX.  It’s brutal and sexy.  I think it’s shaping up to be a very interesting title.  Webisode #1 reveals Hayden’s mentor and a clue to Hayden’s fate as well as a sneak peak at a new set of armor that he receives late in the game.

I’ll use this opportunity to unveil the new age gate here at U360 for mature rated video that I sometimes get.  It’ll allow some safeguards however minimal they may be.  I wanted to implement an age gate to at least be able to say I provided the means.  If you link to this video from U360, please use the link below as the entry point.
