There aren’t many motivations while playing a demo that speak as loud as this particular one does. Codemasters released a demo for their soon to be released racer, GRID, today and at the same time they pulled the curtains off of their eBay Motors Challenge. The GRID playable demo just so happens to be a US-exclusive fastest lap competition in which the ultimate winner will drive away with a brand new, customized, eBay Motors branded Ford Mustang GT-R.
For the game that’s all about the race, the GRID™ playable demo delivers intense competition right from the start as players compete in single-player GRID World events, 12-player online races, and then prove their worth in the white-knuckle Time Trial competition, which is home to the eBay Motors Challenge. It’s worth a shot don’t you think? It isn’t everyday that you get a free demo and could quite possibly walk away with a $90,000 car just for playing it.

“To create the most intense racing experience, Codemasters consulted with the only people to have that experience.”
GRID is coming this Summer to the Xbox 360 with a challenging career mode to thrilling, incident-packed online races featuring up to 12 players. Codemasters shared the latest media on the game featuring Felipe Ortiz and Stuart Hall of the Creation AIMS Le Mans team. Do you feel the need for speed? Or perhaps just another competent racer? It looks as if GRID is shaping up to be just that.

In Europe, touring cars jostle for position at Spa, the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR races in the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours race at dusk and the Aston Martin DBR9 charges around the historic city-centre of Milan. In Japan, gamers catch their first glimpse of GRID’s open-wheel racing series as Formula 3 cars battle around the new Otakuma circuit. At Yokohama docks, the Nissan Silvia and Subaru Impreza demonstrate the awesome exhilaration of drift and night-racing is revealed as the RE Amemiya RX-7 takes on the neon-lit streets of Shibuya in Tokyo. Finally in the United States, the Dodge Viper roars through the iconic streets of San Francisco, Plymouth Barracudas and Chevrolet Camaros battle for supremacy in Washington and Jupiter Eagleray Mk5s smash their way through the chaos and carnage of the destruction derby in Detroit.

I came across this news in the forums today. I know many of you enjoyed the recently released DiRT so you will recognize this name as it’s been the name of the most popular rally racing series in video games. The man behind the Codemasters franchise, Colin McRae, was killed in a helicopter crash near his home in Scotland. Colin McRae was a former World Rally Champion and easily the most popular amongst video game fans.
He was an icon in the sport. I want to extend my prayers to his family. I hope that they get through this time.

In just one week, DiRT has managed to exceed the expectations of many by selling 500K (500,000) units globally for Codemasters. That’s a lot of dirty racing and it bodes well for the genre to debut with such strong sales. The playable demos for the Xbox 360 and the PC have been downloaded over 500K times worldwide.

“This success with DiRT is a text-book case of our product development, marketing and distribution efforts all working together to ignite consumer interest and drive sales,” said Rod Cousens, CEO, Codemasters. “Nearly half of our first week’s sales are from the U.S. alone, which means momentum behind this series is taking hold in new territories.”
Have you gotten a little dirty with DiRT? If so, how is the game? I know you’re loving the menu interface as Unscripted 360 was the first to praise its shine.
June 19. That’s the day we’ll all be getting a little dirty with Codemasters’ DiRT. (those of us in North America that is) Until then, sit down and enjoy one last video before that day. It’s a video with Jon Davis-Hunt, Senior Game Designer at Codemasters, detailing the replay function in DiRT . It’s also the first video under the U360 TV umbrella. It’s where I’ll list all videos and live shows.

With all that said, I hope you enjoy the video. DiRT is definitely looking pretty good.
I woke up this morning to check on my Hour of Victory demo status (started downloading last night and fell asleep) and when I did something surprised me. There was yet another demo in the Xbox Live Marketplace. This one is full of tiny little minions for you to control. Yes, a demo of Codemasters’ Overlord has arrived to give us all a little taste of Gremlin…scratch that, Minion.

For those of you not in the know, check out the latest trailer of Overlord below and head to the U360 message boards to discuss the trailer a bit more.
Since the announcement of the next-gen consoles, the talk of the town has been all about a handful of features. Horsepower tends to be high on that list, along with particle effects and how much geometry developers allow on-screen. While those are valid topics to be concerned with, one thing that hasn’t received anywhere near as much press time is the part of gaming that effectively controls our experience.
The interface.
Sure, you’ve heard developers talk about how their engine brings unparalleled realism to gamers around the globe - at this point in the console wars, it’s almost expected. I’d venture to say that if a developer doesn’t say that at least once describing their engine, they might end up fired. Yes, that was a joke, but I wouldn’t have brought up the topic without valid reason…
Think about it for a second. How many times have you seen an interface in a video game that leaves you speechless? Chances are that it doesn’t happen that often. Don’t get me wrong - there’s nothing wrong with interfaces the way they are, so don’t take it as my complaining - it’s just that when hearing about how much the rest of the experience is being touched with things that were previously impossible, why hasn’t the interface issue ever been considered as a part of that whole?

I know many of you have been wondering what’s next after the Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta? What can Xbox 360 owners look forward to playing as the wait for September 25th begins? Here’s my rundown of titles that you can look forward to and some that you can head out to play right now (or again).
Forza Motorsport 2 - May 29

Racing fans around the globe have been eagerly anticipating the release of this sequel. It’s the Xbox 360’s premiere simulation racer so you know the goodies are packed within. Try playing it with the 360 wireless wheel for maximum experience.
Shadowrun PC/Xbox 360 - May 29

Hey you asked for something to do while you wait and this is a very viable option. If only for the PC to Xbox 360 play, Shadowrun is worth a test drive. The multiplayer has as good a chance as any game to be great especially considering it’s the only option available.
