The 5 best video games I played in 2012

I know you’re all wondering about my choices for the best of 2012 right?  Unlike most lists, I’m only going to list the games I’ve actually played.  There were a lot of games to consider but I wanted to round it down to just five of the best I’ve played.

Now these are just my opinions so don’t cry over the list if your favorite game isn’t included.  Feel free to argue though in the comments below on why these games are justified or why they’re not.  And I’m interested to know what your top 5 would be?

Without further delay … my Five Best of 2012!

5. The Walking Dead XBLA

To be clear, I only downloaded this game because I really enjoy the AMC series.  I didn’t expect much at all but the game really impressed me.  It was the first successful entry into episodic content as far as I’m concerned.  Following the journey of Lee and Clementine was an emotional ride that I thoroughly enjoyed.

4. Medal of Honor Warfighter

Say what you want about expectations and marketing but Warfighter was the best military FPS I’ve played this year.  The story in the game was one of the best in the genre.  If you didn’t “feel” the story, then you have serious issues.  The campaign was a good mixture of action and emotion.

3. Halo 4

Here I was going on year three of not caring about the Halo universe until 343 Industries decided to put me back on the Halo train. Halo 4 isn’t the Halo that I once loved but that’s not a bad thing. It’s actually a heavy sci-fi shooter mostly now with a Halo skin but I’m excited again to play a Halo game.

2. Hitman Absolution

Agent 47 came back in a big way. The Contracts Mode alone was one of the year’s best creations. Visually the game was stunning and being able to tackle missions in just about any way you wanted was great. What can I say … I loved being a bald guy killing people again.

1. Borderlands 2

Pandora, looting and kicking ass has never been more fun.  The game has its shortcomings but I can’t get enough of Borderlands 2 even with the stupid level 50 cap.  The DLC has been fun and Gearbox Software is set to give fans two more pieces of content in 2013 (and maybe more).
