I have been waiting on the Tritton Warhead 7.1 Surround Headsets to release for a while.  I’ve tried quite a few different headsets but none of them were truly wireless.  They each had to connect to the controller for party chat/voice.  However, the Warhead has no such restriction.  You can roam freely with the only true wireless headset.  I’m sure you won’t roam all over your living room but you can appreciate the freedom of having no wires can’t you?  I know I can.

The Warhead is such a beast of a headset that it comes with its own EQ.  The EQ doubles as a headset stand as well so you can place your Warhead headset comfortably on the stand and out of the way.  The EQ has an indicator for movies, games and music.  So depending on what you’re watching (or playing), the EQ will adjust accordingly and light up the appropriate icon.  One of the cool things is that the controls of the headset are conveniently placed on the ear pods.  You can switch the sound and settings without moving.  You can even adjust the sound or mute an annoying gamer right from the headset.  It’s total ease of use!

Setting the Warhead up was rather simple so even if you’re not an audio nerd should be right at home getting things started.  And once you connect, you’re going to enjoy some incredible sound!  I’ve used a variety of headsets as you all know and these are by far the best.  I expected a bit of interference and loss of quality with them being wireless but there was zero.

I checked out the sound while playing the new Fall of Cybertron demo, Gears of War 3 and Alan Wake.  I even played some music and watched the Lockout DVD.  Each game, bit of music and movie I enjoyed gave a different sound profile to judge the Warhead with and each profile lived up to the hype.  The EQ settings changed accordingly too while I switched from game to movie to music.

Do you know the best part?  The Warhead comes with two battery packs.  While you’re draining the juice out of one, you have the other battery charging in the EQ station!  So when you run out of power, just quickly grab the charged battery from the EQ and get back to gaming.  It’s as if Mad Catz and Tritton thought of every audio scenario as a gamer.

One of my favorite features is the mute button right on the microphone.  When I’m violating 360 Law #11, I can hit the mute button quickly before anyone notices.  It comes in handy.  There’s even a red light indicator so that you know you’re muted.  And just like the Detonator, you can control the game and voice volume as well.  You have complete control of your audio experience with the Warhead.

I would’ve liked to use the Warhead on other devices but unfortunately it’s only for the Xbox 360.  That’s one drawback but if you have the Detonator like I do, then it’s an easy thing to get over.  And let’s face it, you’ll be buying the Warhead to go to war with the sound on your console right?

I know the price ($299) might be a bit of a shock to most of your wallets but if you can afford them, your ears will thank you.  I recently had the shackles removed from my eyes with a new TV and now the Warhead has cleared the wax from within my ears.  I’m not exaggerating when I tell you that they seriously amp up the audio experience.

If you can’t tell, I’m very pleased with how the Warhead performed.  The one thing about them (as is the case with many headsets) is that they make my head sweat.  Having them on for a long period of time just makes my ears and head sweat.  I wish that there would’ve been a lighter material used to perhaps ease up the sweat.
