GoFlex Satellite Review, wireless storage flexes its muscle
I know I’m not the only one carrying around mobile devices, tablets and things of that nature. The one thing they all have in common is that each of these devices is likely filled to the rim with photos, videos and movies. I own an iPod Touch 4G 32GB and after loading digital copies of movies, the gigs disappears rather quickly. Well I’m not going to buy a larger iPod Touch so I’d often end up just deleting the movies to clear up space. I hated doing that because playing favorites sucks.
Enter the GoFlex Satellite to solve that problem finally! It’s a wireless storage device with 500 gigs just waiting to be used. The unit came with a USB 3.0 adapter to sync with your PC if you want to drag and drop files from it. You can also use it with your iOS device (be that an iPad, iPhone or iPod). It also works with Android or any other tablet, laptop etc. And it’s all over WiFi. I’ve never been more comfortable taking an extra storage device along for a trip than I have with the GoFlex Satellite. The thing is just pretty damn convenient.

Setting it up is simple as well. Of course there’s an app for use on your iOS device which makes accessing the files on the storage unit really easy. I thought the app setup was easy enough albeit it wasn’t the best thing to look at. There’s only an app for the iOS devices but as long as your device can connect to a web browser you can tap into it.
Once you store your media on the GoFlex, you can then stream it directly to your PC or tablet/mobile device. All you have to do is pull up the app or web browser and select the content. It’ll start playing on your device immediately. Yes, the same goes for documents and photos. You simply launch the GoFlex app and click on your stored media.
In today’s world, it’s all about storage and how you can have more of it. For $199.99, this is the easiest and perhaps the best solution to having everything you need at any moment. The built in WiFi of the device is superb. The ease at which files are transferred is impressive and the best thing is that your media suffers no downgrade in quality … it works perfectly.
I used the GoFlex Satellite on an iPod Touch, Galaxy Tab 10.1 and an iPad 3. I saved myself quite a bit of storage on each device thanks to it. Did I mention that it also looks good? I know that may not be of concern to most but for me I like a device that looks good. It is designed in such a way that it won’t make you look foolish if you carry it around. It’s not bulky and it doesn’t have a bunch of wires hanging out of it. You can conceal it or carry it easily.
If you’re a fan of storage and a fan of things that just work as they should, then this device is a must-have. It works and there’s a built in battery that allows you to stream for about five hours on a full charge. I know an app for Android would be nice but the web browser experience is simple enough to hold you over until Seagate decides to make one. For now, the iOS family gets the app love.
