Beacons, movie rentals coming to Xbox online!

I know that most of you are preparing for the update to your Dashboard this week which includes a little thing called Beacons.  Beacons are the way you’re supposed to avoid all the ridiculous M2AF messages or the annoying game invites to games that you don’t have.  That feature isn’t going to be a console only feature apparently.

Microsoft posted details on the revamp to Xbox.com that is inbound.

“In the coming days, the familiar “My Xbox” section of Xbox.com is going away. Fear not: It’s being replaced with a significant update that will make it even easier to see what your friends are doing on Xbox LIVE. My Xbox is being superceded by the new “Social” section, which not only lets you see at a glance what your friends are up to, but also gives you early access to one of the coolest features coming in the next Xbox 360 dashboard update. That’s right: Xbox.com users will be the very first to try the new Beacons feature, which lets you mark games you want to play with others, making it easier to find friends who want to play the same games.”

Take a look at the article because it covers quite a few details on the new Xbox.com that’s coming.  In case you missed it, here’s the link to the news.

I like the concept. I wish they went a little further. Like available games list so people know what games I currently have. Quite often I will get online with someone. We wouldn’t have game in mind so we spend 15 minutes talking back and forth comparing games.

    Does anyone else do that?
