Xbox LIVE Public Preview Program gets underway
[Update] – no more registration … it’s closed and you can no longer get in the program. 10/14
Are you ready to preview the new Fall dashboard update? Microsoft just announced that it has begun registration for its latest Xbox LIVE Public Preview Program. You can sign up to get your hands on the new Xbox LIVE dashboard early.
A few new features include:
- New design with integrated Kinect voice and gesture controls
- Beacons
- Facebook Sharing
- Cloud Storage for Game Saves and Xbox LIVE Profile
Note: A console in the program is expected to remain fully compatible with standard retail consoles not in the program so you’ll be able to party chat.
What’s up with Beacons? Beacons are like little notes that tell your friends what you’re available to play. Hopefully they save you from being blasted with game invites to games you don’t have. There is also a new model for registering your console. It’s an automated process now that won’t involve inputting your console serial number. Once approved, details will be on the portal about how to register your console.

You can click right here to begin the registration process. Get to clicking … good luck.
REMINDER: The Xbox LIVE Update Preview program is confidential. Please don’t disclose, share, or discuss Preview program materials, except as allowed in the Xbox 360 Preview Program Agreement. Specifically, please:
- DO NOT Blog about the pre-release materials.
- DO NOT Post pictures, screenshots, or video clips of the pre-release materials.
- DO NOT Discuss the Preview materials, in discussion forums, emails, or podcasts.
- DO NOT Talk with the media or press about the pre-release materials. This includes bloggers, newspaper reporters, and television reporters.
That is from the Preview Program page and you can expect it to be ignored as it always is by some folks.

Nice but I’m not gonna beta test for them. I’ll wait till it comes out. Plus last time they did this people in my friends list could not chat with me in a party because they had the beta dashboard I think? I’m just gonna wait till it comes out.

I signed up, my guess is its fairly close to being complete here and this is their way to test stuff as well as get people using it and ease on the roll out. No idea on how many people they are bringing in, but say they take at least 1/4 of the live users. That’s got to help out in the end.
