Battlefield 3 beta is working to fix the final game
Frustrated with all the things happening in the open beta for Battlefield 3? There are obvious issues with the game and I’m not going to list all the things that I’ve had a problem with. Good thing it’s a beta eh? Are you wondering if it’ll mean anything when it comes to the final game? Well EA listed a few things to calm down the fans of the game and those who are contemplating a cancel of their pre-order.
A list of fixes already in works for BF3 because of the beta can be found here. I’ve posted them for easy browsing.
* Fixed occasional client crash when reviving.
* Fixed killcam showing glitched area under map if your killer is dead.
* Issue with spawning on dead squad mates fixed.
* Fixed a bug where shooting at a moving enemy could cause more than the intended amount of damage.
* Crosshairs for shotguns have been replaced with a new, thinner, art.
* A subtle low health screen effect has been added.
* Tweaked scores of Medals and Service Stars.
* Tweaked the Rank progression.
* Pushing prone on console will not play the animation twice.
* Fixed loss of Squad Leader after EOR at some times.
* Framerate stability fixes.
* The 3D spotting icons has been tweaked to better match the target’s visibility. Icons will show frequently less on mostly obscured targets.
* Fixed issue with crosshair disappearing after round transition.
* Fixed issue with crosshair disappearing after trying to deploy while the countdown timer still active.
* Squad list now shows specializations chosen, VOIP activity and dead squad mates.
* Non working options in squad menu fixed: “Private” flag and “Switch Teams”.

still kinda amazed they are having this beta so close to release … isnt this game in the can? I know that launch day title updates are the norm now but it sorta seems like too little too late IMHO …

Irish these were my exact concerns yet people were complaining to me saying
1. It’s JUST a beta not a demo
2. Plenty of time to fix the problems
3. Stop being nit picky
To each of these let me put the word down right here.
This game is scheduled to be released Oct 25. Don’t tell me they have 1 month to fix these issues. They need to release the final “gold” copy to get it pressed to distributors then out to the stores. You need at least a week for all of these. This tells me REALLY, they have 15-20 days to get this hashed out. I will bet money there will be a HUGE patch day 1. Who wants to bet me?
We aren’t being nit picky because these are legit concerns we are seeing. Maybe it is because EA was hyping, and has been hyping, the hell out of this game, ESPECIALLY the non-PC versions
That is all, have a good day

P.S. To all the people who told me relax, it’s just a beta, nothing major, then why would EA tell people not to worry this is not the final product?
CLEARLY, MANY people have complained.

we live in the age of patches unfortunately

there is honestly nothing wrong with the beta that harms the gameplay. its graphical issues and server-side issues. i love the beta. definitely gunna get the game at some point. considering you only get 1 gametype and 1 map and people are hating is ignorant imo. i just dont understand what is making this beta so awful and unplayable for all the people freaking out about it?

also they made this game for pc and are porting to consoles. so even more of a reason to not complain. they dont even have to bring it to consoles but they are.

Yeah I’m sure i’m not the only one but a group of friends and I decided on not buying this because of how bad the beta experience was and with the many problems it had. MW3 it is for me!

quite a few have said the same thing Tony
i’m still getting BF3 though … i’m a Frostbite 2 bitch lol

Hearing all these negative comments about the beta is going to make Battlefield 3 a hard sell. But I’m all for Battlefield 3 though.

I like it, but I am not as impressed as I was hoping I would be. For now its all Gears3 for me.

the general public doesn’t care to know all of that though Pimp. several thousand have made up their minds not to get the game because of the beta. they think it’s a thing where there isn’t enough time to finish etc etc.
it’s the worst scenario for publishers .. put out a beta to get feedback but in the process lose thousands of gamers who dont’ understand it’s just a beta.
i would’ve just not released it if it didn’t represent the game in a good way. and just because it’s a beta doesn’t protect it from those criticisms. afterall i doubt as much will change when the game comes out in less than 3 weeks. it’s not a beta in the way people expect a beta to be … remember Gears 3? that was a beta. it was done months before the game was due to release.

I’ve been in the software industry for a LONG time.
You do NOT put out a Beta to the general public unless you are prepared to fully explain what works and what doesn’t. These are gamers. For the most part many are fickle, ignorant, and just want to blow up crap.
EA should have posted a release note with this beta stating they know of the issues and it’s far from the final product. The problem is what I explained earlier, this Beta is too God damn close to the release! It should have been a demo at this point.
It does not matter if you explain to people what a Beta is. They don’t care. They are used to playing regular games that are NOT BUGGY, even Demos that aren’t buggy. Years ago Betas were released to select potential customers who would help the developers work out the kinks and find any problems. You just don’t do that with the general gaming public unless you clearly spell out everything.
Ultimately, I think the problem was releasing a Beta so close to release. And don’t give me this shit that they have 1 month. Release day is Oct 25th, minus 1 week for pressing DVDs and packaging and sending out to stores, so in reality they have 15-20 days. Deac probably understands the exact timeframe on how soon a game goes from ‘Gold’ to press to packaging to the stores.

I understand the whole beta deal and when it is in beta it should be for the most part 99 percent finished! Most of the time when dev’s put their game out in public beta then they are usually testing for network stress and possibly a couple of small bugs that people like to search for.
But honestly there are so many things that aren’t up to my personal expectations. I mean this is supposed to be the game that’s gonna stomp on the call of duty series.
On a positive note the game is quite shiny

Yah Tony, you are a perfect example of my point.
The game is too close to release and your expectations were set higher even knowing it was a Beta. Many people’s expectations were BECAUSE EA was touting it better than call of duty series.
I won’t cancel my pre-order because at $47.99 shipped it’s a good deal HUZZZZZZAHHHHHH!

I think EA might have bitten off more than they can chew by
calling out Call of Duty. If your’re going to talk the talk you damn sure better walk the walk. I agree with BPD and others that said this is way too close to the release date to put out a beta now. Epic benefitted greatly by putting out a beta months in advance of the Gears 3 release.
I’m trying to stay positive about Battlefield 3 but from what I’m hearing about the console version and playing the PS3 version at PAX, I hope EA can come through with a good game.
