Best of PAX Prime 2011

This year’s PAX Prime was perhaps the biggest ever.  There were several games that stood out from the crowd that I had to make mention of.  I use the Best of PAX feature to showcase the games that I think will end up being the most played in your console from this event.  Well let’s just say they’ll be the most played in MY console at least.

If you’re interested in a less technical recap of PAX Prime that’s filled with the best of the “other stuff” from the event, then make sure you check out Deacon’s best of stuff list

Trials Evolution
Developer: RedLynx
Publisher: Xbox Live Arcade
Release Date: TBA

This game was one of the biggest surprises of the expo.  I had no idea it was going to be at PAX and when I walked by the display, I did a mad dash to it.  It did not disappoint.  It had all of the frustration and awesomeness of the first one but multiplied by more levels of awesome.

Battlefield 3
Developer: DICE
Publisher: EA
Release Date: October 25

If you’re expecting a game that will not only give Modern Warfare 3 a run for its money but might damn well take its lunch money, then Battlefield 3 is that game.  You can read what I thought of BF3 during my exclusive visit.

Batman: Arkham City
Developer: RockSteady
Publisher: Warner Bros.
Release Date: October 18

Let’s go through a checklist of things required to make a game fanfriggintastic.  Awesome visuals?  Check.  Awesome gameplay?  Check.  More Awesome gameplay?  Check.  Even more awesome gameplay?  Check…check…check.

Batman: Arkham City is going to kick much ass when it releases.  Not only is the Batman back but he has a few friends now and he has even more gadgets to help him do his “bat” thing.  I loved every second of my time with the game.  And it has Dax, the insane in the membrane developer involved so what more do you need?

RAGE
Developer: iD Software
Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
Release Date: October 4

I wasn’t expecting much from RAGE to be honest.  But boy was I blown away by how precise and detailed this game was.  The story, the graphics and the AI are just damn sick.  The AI in fact might just be a bit too good in this game.  They’re some rabid parkour hybrid bandits in Rageville I see.  I don’t know if it was me or my skills but these guys were seriously hard to kill.  They just wouldn’t stop moving and evading!

It was a lot of fun though and RAGE is easily in the top 5 of my “must have” list.

  1. Cash is to be spend on good stuff and this game is worthy.
22GB spread out on 3 discs, you can’t go wrong there considering that is a LOT of content.
From what I’ve seen so far, the co-op is a truly blood pumping experience.
    Nearly there!
