WWE ’12, impressions from inside the ring
Last month Unscripted 360 was invited out to Los Angeles to check out THQ’s next wrestling game, WWE ’12. I had my brother go out (as I often do) and rep Unscripted 360 not to mention he’s a huge WWE fan. I was jealous because not only did he get to play the game but he also got to attend SummerSlam and meet muthaflippin’ Randy Orton!
You all should know that I’m a pretty big fan of the WWE games and the entertainment brand. You might not recognize the game but it is formerly of the Smackdown vs RAW series of wrestling games … yes they renamed it. (and they put the Viper on the cover to make it bad ass)
You can say what you want about the wrestling genre delivering the same old same but make no mistake THQ and Yukes are really putting their best foot forward to deliver a new experience with WWE ’12. It’s not about the improved graphics or gameplay. You can see the screens for visual beauty. These guys have seriously made it the biggest, baddest and perhaps most bad ass WWE game ever.

There are now 80+ match types, 70+ Superstars, Divas and Legends combined. The story and campaign have both gotten longer and more involved. I won’t even mention the hundreds of things you can now unlock. The AI has been improved, moves are now more fluid. I know fans of the game have often been frustrated with the way submissions and reversals are done but now that’s all been improved. There’s a new submission system that makes it feel natural when doing. Heck even reversals (and interrupting moves) has been redefined.
All of that though is great but there’s one thing that I simply geeked out about when hearing. One of the biggest additions to the game is that you can now create your own arena! I’ve often campaigned for leaving the ability to create your own belt in the game but I’ve never fathomed how it would be to create my own arena! Who wants to play in Deacon’s House? Yes, you all do! You can even share your arena online with friends.
Before I go, I wanted to let you guys and girls know that THQ is currently polling people on which Superstar should grace the cover of WWE ’12 Collector’s Edition. You can choose between The Rock or John Cena. WWE ’12 is laying the smack down on November 12 and if you pre-order the game you’ll get The Rock for free.
If you haven’t tried these games, you should because they’re really good fighting games. Even beyond them being “wrestling” games, they’re good fighting games with some outlandish characters. Gear up for one of the most improved entries into the franchise.
BRING IT! And now here is some exclusive bonus footage of the event … enjoy!
