iD locking single campaign content for used game buyers of RAGE
I’m a fan of Bethesda and iD Software. I’ve enjoyed nearly all of the games from both studio houses. And I’m going to be the first to say that this bit of news is both disappointing and serious bullshit. In a recent interview, Creative Director at iD Software Tim Willits confirmed that if you buy RAGE used there are some parts of the single player campaign that will be blocked and inaccessible. Really iD … really? It’s bad enough that the online pass fiasco keeps people from playing a game online if purchased used but now you’re going to strip OFFLINE content as well?

“If you bought the game new, that would be open for you. You still have to download it, but you don’t have to pay for it. Those hatches are all over. Most people never find them. But as soon as you do, you’re like, oh. And then you start to look for it. That’s our first-time buyer incentive.
But as you can tell, most people never even see it. I can tell you, some people will buy Rage, download that, and still never set foot in those things. They just won’t. I think that’s fair. It’s cool. It’s outside the main path. We’re not detracting from anything. But I know some consumers, when you can’t avoid it, then you get a little touchy subject.”
The justification to withhold this content is that most people won’t even find the sewer hatches anyway. Well if there’s ONE person who does or simply if it’s possible to find them and it’s part of the single campaign .. it stinks to deny anyone used or new access to them!
What is happening to the gaming industry? At some point we’re going to be buying our way into boss battles and getting only chunks of a game.

That makes piracy a better proposition than rental in that case!

Game developers are desperate in trying anything to stop used game sales. UTTER FAIL!
All the more reason to NOT buy those games

I really wanted this game and planned on buying it new anyways, but with this info I will probably bypass and boycott. Online gaming is one thing but crippling the single player now is too much. I will wait for this game to drop a lot in price or find a killer deal now probably before even thinking about getting it.

You’re a 1 man army against million of minions.
You know you want this game and you will buy it new because of this BS.
I’ll say it again, they should fight the rental/used industry directly in court, make it happen and make games cheaper and FFS ditch all that exclusive preorder crap out the window as well.
Nobody drools over a level 5 weapon after 1 hour in the game, it’s random stuff to grab your money. *oooooh shiney!*
