Netflix and No lube
A while back we all heard the rumors about a major change coming to the Netflix services and it seems it is no longer just a myth. Subscribers will now have to choose between DVDs only, Streaming exclusively or pay almost double for both. That is a 60% price hike up for the longtime loyal customers who joined for the current steaming & DVD combo service.
I had to catch wind of details from the internet and didn’t even get a courtesy email. This seems to be a pretty big topic to many of the Netflix users currently subscribing to the service and to those contemplating joining. I completely understand that business is business. I also feel this is just another big company squeezing money out of its customers in a time when money is a very big deal. We will be talking about this on today’s show. What are your thoughts on this matter?

can’t knock their hustle but at the same time they can’t fault me for either cancelling or dropping to a lower subscription which i’m doing regardles…
i’ll either just say to hell and cancel … or just do stream only for $8.

I do mind, the Dude minds. This will not stand, ya know, this aggression will not stand, man.
Plus if you have the Blu-ray Access it cost more.

Fail on Netflix because everyone does not have high speed internet.

I’ll most likely cancel before the new fees go into effect … I also have a one at a time BR with streaming and its only like 11 bones … while the increase isnt absurd I am a man of principle and this will not stand …

Netfilx is trying to get paid. The more business they do, the more they are going to try and profit from it. I don’t subscribe to Netfix. Most of those movies show on cable or satellite within a month or two being released on DVD anyway.

I follow all sorts of netflix news, mostly because my family really uses this everyday. We are cord-cutters. I have no problem with this rate increase. The reason I don’t is because of the amount of new movies they have added to their streaming library over the past couple months. And do you know how much my prices are going up from this rate increase? -$2. I’m dropping the disc part of the plan, I don’t really use it but I pay for it. Buy doing so, my rates will go down but I’m going to continue to keep getting the service that they have been giving me for months now (like I said, their library has really grown over the past couple months).
So if you want to be mad at anyone, be mad at yourself for using their services and wanting more movies. These movies cost money to licence and that is just what Netflix has been doing, snatching up more licences so they can stream more movies. Works for me. It’s still the most affordable service out there for getting movies and it’s the best subscription plan out there that will continue to earn my money every month.
Hmm $8 a month for everything netflix has to stream, and I can watch it on my ps3, 360, mac, iphone, ipad OR $8 for a single matinee ticket to the movies.

i’m with ya Steve … dropping down to stream only might just be a good alternative considering there’s always Redbox if i have to absolutely have a new movie release or hell even a Blockbuster kiosk.

I only do streaming so this does not really affect me. I dropped their DVD service a while back and I use Redbox or Blockbuster Express as their are tons of them around my house so its easy to find the few new releases I watch a month.

Rates will keep going up as they continue to dominate in the market.. It will not stop here. The streaming is not Blu-Ray quality, and one day streaming will take over if people continue to support NetFlix over ReadBox, or any other Disc based service… Then you will not be paying to own your movies, but to reant them at a lesser quality.

@Steve I am “mad” at 2 things. 1 not being notified by the company first, and not being told if both the DVD & Streaming libraries will be the same. For example if you are on the current 1DVD + streaming there are some things that are one or the other so you would have access in some format. If you are now telling a customer who has that service that they now have part of a selection and not the other then that is like asking them to pay for a lesser service. I don’t hate on getting paid but this is quite a jolt to the average consumer.

Netflix is trying to move to an stream only business.
The DVD/postage mailing costs them too much money.

It all comes down to pay it or not. There are those who will, or those who won’t and the cogs will continue to turn. *shrug*

[...] Netflix drops a bomb on their customers I was ticked off about it. Were you? Did you get a courtesy email? Will this even hurt the juggernaut we know as Netflix?? [...]
