Xbox Live Billing, removing credit cards
Quite a few people have emailed and posted comments on a previous article I wrote about removing credit card details from your Xbox Live account. A lot of things have changed since then so I wanted to give an update to how this is actually done.
The best way to do it remains simply calling Xbox Support at 800-469-9269 and requesting that your payment method be deleted. You have to have auto-renew turned off before you will be able to remove any credit card on your account. Turning off auto-renew can be done via Xbox Support as well as on the web. If you look at the image below, there is an option for “Automatic Renewal”. If it isn’t already turned off, it’ll say “ON” and you’ll be able to click that in order to turn it off.

Xbox.com has obviously changed since the first article I wrote so I’ve provided this image. You have to log on with the email address and password details you used to set up your Xbox Live account. Once you log on to Xbox.com, click on the “My Xbox” tab to get to your Accounts.
After this you’ll see a list of options including “Manage Payment Options”. Click that and you should see all of the credit cards currently on your account. Just hit “Remove” and it should vanish. If it doens’t, that means you currently have an Xbox Live subscription tied to the card. At that point you’ll have to call Xbox Support to further remove it.
A quick tip for those of you who don’t like calling Xbox Support is to simply add another payment option in order to remove the one you really want to remove. You can even add a PayPal account now so you can set your PayPal account as the primary payment method and then remove the desired credit card on the account afterwards.
I hope this helps.
