The day the music died… Activision disbands Guitar Hero franchise
Well Activision is at it again, in an effort to refocus on more profitable aspects of the company, they are completely cutting the Guitar Hero franchise.
“Due to continued declines in the music genre, the company will disband Activision Publishing’s Guitar Hero business unit and discontinue development on its Guitar Hero game for 2011,”.
Guitar Hero wasn’t the only IP to get ‘axed’, Activision has halted development on its True Crime: Hong Kong action game.

“These decisions are based on the desire to focus on the greatest opportunities that the company currently has to create the world’s best interactive entertainment experiences,” they explained.
About 500 jobs will be lost in the down sizing. While the cuts seem to be happening everywhere these days, a lot of gamers are watching some of their favorite game developers fall to the economic troubles felt around the world. Activision does have plans to start a new internal Dev team called “Beachhead” and is said to be tasked with creating and maintaining online play, downloadable content, and exclusives for their flagship series Call of Duty.
What do you think, no more Guitar Hero and more Call of Duty? Sound like a good plan?

They were pumping out a game every 6 months it was rediculous. Guitar hero, Guitar Hero 2, Then it was Guitar Hero 3, Guitar Hero Van Halen, Guitar Hero Metalica, Band Hero, etc. it was just ridiculous. I mean your paying 200+ dollars for a kit and then another game comes out. They should have made it a 2 year rotation because all of the DLC comes to a waste when the next game comes out.
Rock Band has it right where your DLC transfers to the next game and RB1 songs transfer to RB2. Its genius and keeps things flowing
My 2 cents

That’s right Activision. Tell us all that plastic peripherals are worthless now, and not profitable. Then 2 days later announce that you’re selling plastic toys to interact with Spyro games. So thanks for ruining that once great series even further, and FUCK YOUR BLATANT HYPOCRICY!!
