Fox News “Parents beware. There’s a Bulletstorm on the horizon.”
Well generally my opinion on the bias of modern news television has been discussed on many occasions. So it may not shock you to hear my disdain at the leader of the pack (Fox News) when it comes to creating what are called “moral panics“. So hide your kids and hide your wives, because fox news says Bulletstorm is the next video game that’s gonna cause ehhhbody to be rapin up in here! (that’s a funny youtube reference)
That’s right not only has it been speculated that video games increase violence but now sexual violence. I guess it was only a matter of time but at what point do we stop providing people with excuses to justify their wrong doing? Carol Lieberman, a psychologist and book author, told FoxNews.com that “sexual situations and acts in video games — highlighted so well in Bulletstorm — have led to real-world sexual violence.” She also went as far as blaming video games for an imaginary increase in the rape rate. “The increase in rapes can be attributed in large part to the playing out of [sexual] scenes in video games,” she said. Here is a link to the Bureau of Justice Statistics site…judge for yourself.
Bulletstorm looks to be one of the raunchiest games ever made. I’ll agree I see possible connections between the in-game challenges and sexually explicit content. There is no getting around “Gang Bang” and “Topless” right? Well I know obviously both words have meanings that aren’t related to sex, but it all leads back to trying to cause a “moral panic”. If enough people accept it, they can get the games removed from the shelves. But hold the phones, will removing bulletstorm stop teen violence, will removing games in general stop adolescents from having sex? No chance amigo. The only people that can truly do that are parents.
It has been said before and repeated throughout the communities involved in gaming. Parents should use the rating system on all games to base whether or not it is appropriate for their child to play a specific game. Each child is different and parental involvement plays a big role as well.
Bulletstorm may be horrible, we may all have mass nightmares after we play it. However speculating these results does not allow for any blame to be placed on the developers or publishers of the game. Ultimately we choose to play it. It has been rated and the parents of these children have the opportunity to prevent their child from playing it. If they do let them play it, I would expect someone to be discussing the fact that violence isn’t the answer or the proper way to treat a lady.
Since when isn’t that a parents job? Single parent, sorry no excuse. Work too much, wrong again. You brought your children into the world it is your responsibility to parent. It seems the world is full of people trying to find reasons to blame something or someone else for the violence.
Is it fair? When does it become your own responsibility? Should game makers be sensored? What do you think?
Oh here is the original article it’s a real page turner..article.

I think the ESRB rates games better then the Motion Picture Association of America rates movies. Has anyone else seen the documentary “This Film Is Not Yet Rated”?

Why don’t parents parent their kids anymore?!
The ESRB ratings have been around for a long time!
I just don’t understand all the media shitstorm behind these adult games. It’s the same with movies. It really is starting to bother the hell out of me.

The game developers did their job by putting a Mature rating on the game. It’s up to the parents to educate themselves as to what is appopriate for their kids.
