Torchlight lighting a path to XBLA
If you’ve ever really gotten into PC gaming then you’re likely to have run across Runic Games’ Torchlight at some point. Think of it as Diablo’s little baby brother and that should tell you how much I’ve personally enjoyed it. It’s a pretty cool game on PC and those of you who don’t game on PC will finally be able to play it this Spring!
“We couldn’t be happier to bring Torchlight to Xbox LIVE Arcade,” says CEO Max Schaefer. “This is what the fans have been asking for. Torchlight for the Xbox 360 is a new way to experience a great game, and we’re thrilled to work with Microsoft to bring it to fruition.”
Torchlight is coming so prepare for the fantasy to begin. You can check out a lot of questions about the XBLA version right here. You’ll be able to play as the Destroyer, Vanquisher or Alchemist class. And I have a feeling it will zap a lot of your time away especially if you’ve ever been into games like Diablo or to some extent Arkadian Warriors.

Q: What has been changed to make the game work on the 360?
A: The UI is COMPLETELY overhauled from the ground up. Nothing works the same. All new art and navigation. The concept of item ’slots’ is done away with – you just have a number of items you can hold ( 50 – ignores stack counts ). Potions and scrolls stack up to 99. Potions ‘auto pick’ the best potion to heal you or regen mana. You don’t have to think about it or map it. We iterated on the UI a ridiculous amount.
You can have 4 active mapped skills at a time, and a secondary set that you can swap between (using the dpad) for 8 mapped skills. Most of us actually find it easier to use a variety of skills on the console vs. PC, oddly enough.
This is all part of Microsoft’s House Party lineup this Spring so it’s just the beginning.

Q: Will Torchlight be released for the PS3 / PSN?
A: There are no PS3 plans at this time. Microsoft is acting as the publisher for the XBLA release.

Literally the first I have heard of this game at all. I spazzed when I thought I saw the word free, did ctl + f and found that it was not indeed “free”. Oh well seems interesting.

Rarely anything is Free on the marketplace and if it is its usually by a company marketing their product. Only arcade games I can remember being free not from a company marketing was Aegis Wings and Undertow. Undertow was only free cause of issues with live at the time.

Sugar you forget Doritos Crash Course and the other game began with an H that Deac posted about. We all downloaded both…FREE

Cannot wait for this and Beyond Good and Evil HD next month!

But BPD those were for marketing. I remember Carcassone and a Texas Holdem game were free for like 3 days each as a special. Aegis Wing is te only permanently free arcade game that isn’t for marketing. Imelda you count Hexic but that comes on the HD.

Good points Nuclear, I forgot that.
Yah Beyond Good & Evil!

@BPD, yes I have those but I was referring to free arcade games not sponsored by companies for advertising. I have not tried the other game that was free with Doritos crash course though. Is it sponsored by Doritos as well?
