Black Ops surpasses $650 million mark
Do you hear that? Listen closer…come on closer…now do you hear it? That’s the sound of money ringing in Big Bob Kotick’s ear at Activision Blizzard.
Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops has shattered theatrical box office, book and video game sales records for five-day worldwide sell through in dollars. The game established an all-new five-day worldwide sell-through record of more than
$650 million, exceeding Activision’s previous five-day worldwide record of $550 million set by last year’s Call of Duty: Modern WarfareR 2, according to internal Activision estimates.
“There are many reasons for the success of Black Ops, but first and foremost is the fact that our team at Treyarch delivered a truly awesome game, and in the process have established themselves as one of the most talented developers in the world,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO, Activision Publishing. “There are millions of people all over the world engaging in this community.
It’s our job to keep them coming back for more.”
I don’t want to hear anything else about how used games are breaking the industry or hurting the bottom line of these publishers especially from Activision Blizzard. I want to see one or two free map packs or something! That’s close to a billion dollars from one game and more than a billion dollars over the last two Call of Duty games they’ve put out.
“Call of Duty has become the first entertainment property in history to set five-day launch records for two consecutive years across all forms of entertainment,” said Robert Kotick, CEO, Activision Blizzard.
Used games hurting huh? Please! Brag about the numbers all you want Kotick but you’re just making your process look more asshatery than ever when you charge 1600 points or 1200 points for map packs with no hint of ever offering a freebie.
Bringing in close to a billion dollars in 5 days and you can’t offer a free fookin’ map pack? C’MON MAN!
