Did you buy Kinect, what do you think?
It’s a pretty simple question. Were you part of any midnight launch events last night? Did you buy Kinect or do you plan on buying it? I’ll have my own opinions of it sometime this week or weekend. I’m interested in hearing what you think if you managed to get one.
I don’t think we’ll see any reports of any mass hysteria about not being able to get one. I think Microsoft is doing its part in making sure there are plenty of Kinect sensors in retail.
There’s one thing I’d like to point out for those of you interested in buying or have purchased already the Kinect 4GB bundle. It does not come with the adapter that can be utilized on older Xbox 360 consoles. So if you bought the 4GB Kinect bundle and you planned on using it on an older Elite from time to time, you won’t be able to. Well you won’t be able to unless you buy the necessary adapter or simply buy a separate Kinect unit. It will work just fine with the Xbox 360 S it comes with.
I thought I’d share that with you just as a head’s up. So what do you think of Kinect?

I bought it last night at my Gamestop Midnight Launch. As a somewhat skeptical purchaser, I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with it. Seems to work really well and the response times are better than I expected. Most surprisingly is how well it worked in a dark room. As for now I am more than happy with my purchase with the little I have got to try it out. My kids are really enjoying it too which was the main reason for my purchase. I definitely see myself playing it more than I originally expected too though. Only time will tell if my enjoyment of it is real or it is just another fad an my interest in it will die off. We will see.

I did buy it but can’t comment because ToysRus didn’t ship it yet….. Apparently if you chose the cheapest shipping the sit on it for an extra day… -_- I guess Amazon’s crazy awesome shipping spoiled me.

I got it today. Yea I dont think anyone will have a problem finding one this xmas season. I went this morning to gamestop in the mall and had one set aside for me and the guy didnt even ask for my name and just said sure we got some. “But oddly enough all pre-orders were sold out in all the gamestops and toys r us in my area”
Overall I think it’s pretty cool,I only played the game it came with and the demo of the dancing which was suprisingly fun. It did a good job following your movements and after a few games you will get the feel of it and becomes more fun and it worked great at night time with the lights off,That is a major plus for me.
Im looking forward to try a boxing game,I have a wii and the wii boxing wasnt very accurate. If the boxing on kinect works better I will be pleased with my purchase.
If you have a wii fitness board you played kinect already. It does just what they advertise “You are the controller” and thats about the main difference so far with the games I played. Dont get me wrong there is more features with the kinect like you can use legs, not confined to a board that the batteried run out, takes silly pics of you while you play the game and few more things. But when its all said and done it’s not really that different.
If you dont have a wii board and was looking at getting one for exercise I will recommend the kinect over the wii,But if you already own the wii and are thinking about getting a kinect/xbox set up for the sole perpose of exercise,I would say save your money your not missing out on that much.
Bottom line its a cool new gadget and the $150 makes this a questionable buy for me so far,At $100 I would say its a great buy,Now if this progresses into some kind of 3D game play where stuff pops out of the screen at you that your trying to hit or duck then I would say Its amazing! But till then It’s Pretty cool.

i do want to get this, i just need to see more reviews first. The main reason i didn’t want to get this right at launch is just in case there is any hardware defects.
I plan on getting this at target hopefully on black friday. ( tip: spend $100 before 10 am on black friday and get a $10 gift card. read this rumor on a ad site. ) hope its true. plus 5% savings off with using my target card.
I really want to try that harry potter game and also one of the fitness games.
good to hear from others that response times are good.
can anyone tell me how the voice recon is? thanks

I got this for my birthday yesterday, which really I got it for my girlfriend because she complains that Xbox is not family friendly. I brought it home, easy to hook it up. Went through the very enjoyable setup process, I was grinning at the overwhelming possibilities this little piece of tech could have (RPG you talk to). I played around with the Kinect interface then tried the game. In short, Wii, you better move over cause Microsoft just completely destroyed what you have been working on. The kinect is well worth 150 of anyone’s money. This little sensor bar is really an amazing piece of tech. So much next gen gaming tech it’s really something. As you can tell I am really happy with this purchase. I think the games will target children and families, and eventually they will begin targeting Xbox 360′s core audience, 15-40 males. That is what I am looking forward too. However, for now, the tech and novelty high is great and I don’t see it dyeing off as long as the games diversify a little. If you are thinking about buying a Kinect, I would say, you will not feel jipped, or ripped off. You will be completely satisfied with what you get. One of the best console accessories since the laserscope for regular NES. I do not see an issue with finding one this holiday season, which is a good thing, however, Oprah did give these away as one of her favorite things, so you never know what that may do for them.

you went way back Murdled with the laserscope comment lol

Has anyone tried a boxing game yet? If so what’s the verdict on it?
Im going to wait till they are renting these games so I can try to see which one works the best,I think they have 2 or 3 different boxing games so far that come in the sports games.
They look kinda like the wii versions and thats ok if it works better,The wii always felt like I was just flailing my arms around.

Well I bought kinect sports today. Its ok but IMO not worth the $50.
The bowling was pretty decent and had a good feel to it.
I just didnt care for the soccer,Just didnt seem to have a point to it other then just kicking your foot as soon as the ball got to your player-and also trying to block the goal. It was just frustrating because you cant look for a player to pass to,or move. They just give you arrows where players are and you kick in one of the directions and hope for the best I guess?
Table tennis was ok,just basic ping pong had a decent feel to it and worked ok.
Volley ball was ok. I played 2 games and probally wont ever play it again, not that it was horrible just not a fan of volleyball and wasnt that fun to play.
Boxing was Good,Not what I hoped for but had a better response than the wii boxing. Its pretty much plays like the wii,you move your arms in to block high or low,and you punch high or low. It woks pretty well and does what you want it to do 90% of the time. You can throw some other punches like I threw a upper cut,and hooks and you can hear the announcer say Nice upper cut but when you start out then only teach you strait jabs high or low, power punch and to block. Maybe if you increase the skill level they might throw some other moves in,I dont know?
They also have track and field but im out of shape and was to tired to try it out,They also have a good amount of mini games that are also included that I didnt get to yet.
Its ok but it reminds me very much of the wii games,Motion sports looked more realistic and would have gotten it but it didnt have bowling and there was no playing on live so I went with kinect sports.
If you cant wait to play another game with your kinect like I couldnt give this game a try,but if you can wait theres another one coming out in a few week called deca sports which has more games to my liking, and pretty much has everything on kinect sports “except bowling” but they add paintball, archery, snow boarding, kendo, and Dodge ball and can be played online. If anyone tries anything new let us know.

Not even the least bit interested.
If there ever comes a time when it’s necessary I will get it, but until then it’s too much of a gimmick product to invest in. Maybe next-gen it becomes legit.

you’ll be a closet Kinecter soon Harp

I bought a kinect at best buy last week. Me and the wife played Kinect Adventures, then tried the Dance Central demo on it. Within an hour she sent me up to Best Buy to buy it. I went ahead and got Kinect Sports too. I am truly amazed at the preciseness of this device. Kinect sports is amazing and WOW, what a workout. I was sweating my butt off within ten minutes. I just got back from basic and AIT for the united states army, and this rivaled some of the workouts we did. Over the last week I’ve had trouble getting my wife to stop playing and come to bed. She has never been interested in video games, and now she’s hooked. Husband’s beware.
