Kinect, why spend a billion, when you can spend a million?
Microsoft sure plans to do everything its money is capable of when it comes to advertising Kinect and Windows Phone 7. There are reports out that they plan on spending a billion dollars on advertising to help you all make the decision to invest in Kinect and Windows Phone 7.
My question and I’m sure Dr. Evil will agree…why spend billions when you could spend millions? I guess you’ll have to watch the movie to get the joke. Anyway, will it take that much to convince you on Kinect? How much does it have to sell to recoup the marketing costs? One must wonder if it’s really a smart move putting so many of your eggs in one basket.

Some of the billion will go towards:
• Burger King promotion
• Pepsi promotion
• Kellogg’s cereal promotion
• YouTube homepage takeover
• Ad buys on Nickelodeon, Disney sites
• Ad buys on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” and Fox’s “Glee”
• Ad buys on Time Inc.’s People and InStyle
• Times Square event
What say you?

no millions or Billions will matter if they continue to be disconnected from their audience. The promos we’ve seen are not gonna cut it. I hope that their plan include give away contests, true game play and such to really get it into the hands of users and create a beastful buzz. It’s gonna be about where and who they are going to need to reach out to.
I think this one:
Ad buys on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” and Fox’s “Glee”
is a good choice especially for Dance central.
Just my opinion.

yeah the Dancing with the Stars and Glee placement should be good depending on the commercial…it could go either way.

Ya, they really need a good catchy\funny commercial that people will remember. Everything I have seen so far on Kinect is lame.

Spending that kind of money proves Microsoft has changed to a casual focus… I sure wish they would have spent that on quality games for the 360 instead. I also hope the product that they are pushing turns out better than their advertising. = Advertising > Quality in Microsoft’s eyes.

they could just give out the hardware and make all their money on the shovelware that will flood the market directly after…can’t see how a billion wouldn’t cover lots of units…

I don’t understand why Microsoft is waiting 2 weeks to throw money into promotions for Kinect. After E3, the marketing train should’ve been rolling. I guess no one could come up with any good ideas looking at the commercials they put out for Kinect which may have prompted them to throw so much money around for promotions.
All the millions and billions of dollars won’t mean a thing if they don’t market Kinect correctly. Slaping a picture on a box of cereal won’t be enough. I think they are showing Kinect on Ophrah today!

The Holiday onslaught is on gameskillz, it seems like the big pushes are timed carefully around the holidays, so people aren’t sick of it but can’t get it out of their heads either….
