Kinect requires space…a lot of it!
This November will mark the beginning of an interesting challenge for Microsoft and the Xbox 360. They’re putting a lot of their eggs in the full motion basket with Kinect. The motion sensor for the Xbox 360 will require at least 6 feet of space between you and the sensor.
If you plan to game with a friend, then prepare to move your couch so that you have at least 8 feet of space. If you’re a college kid in a dorm, then you should just forget about it now. If you’ve seen videos on the Dashboard or any of the commercials on YouTube, then you’d notice that Kinect will require a lot of space.
You’ll either have to rearrange your living room or simply plan to play Kinect ahead of time when you don’t have any company. Most gamers play in their bedrooms and unless you’re The Big Aristotle (Shaq) then there’s no reason you’d have that much space in your bedroom. I don’t have a lot of space in so I know I won’t be “kinecting” in my bedroom. Who has 6-8 feet of room to spare?
I imagine not many will understand before they purchase Kinect that it will require some clever furniture assignment or a dedicated room in the house somewhere. I imagine quite a few college kids and small apartment owners are disappointed.
What say you about Kinect and its space requirements?

I dont think its as big of a deal as people think. When people play Wii they need a bunch of space as well to avoid hitting the TV and each other. I am more worried about lag with Kinect then the space issue.

I think the whole point of Kinect was for it to be used in the living room, with the family, that’s why they presume you have space to use it. Only one person uses my XBOX, and that’s me, in my bedroom for serious gaming. That’s why I won’t be buying Kinect, =P.

I have a nice amount of space in my living room. I could move my couch to the side and that’s not a problem for me. But I can understand how that can create a problem for others. Microsoft should program Kinect to adjust to the space in your house or apartment.
