Backbreaker demo available
Remember back in 2007 when I gave you the first glimpse at a new football game making its way to the Xbox 360 called Backbreaker? Well that football game is finally going to show up this year and the folks at Natural Motion are so confident you’ll love it that they released a demo. Will this suffer the same fate as pretty much all football games without an NFL license? My guess is that it’ll be an afterthought sooner rather than later and that’s not a knock on how good or bad it will be.
The fact is that any football game faces a huge uphill battle without the NFL behind it. You can allow people all the customization you want but the reality is that it will not be the NFL. I’m just not interested in playing as the Dallas Waveriders against the New York Smash no matter how close I can get the logo and colors. I don’t care that Euphoria might make a tackle look good either when I have to customize any real NFL feel into the game.
The game will retail at $49.99 and that only adds to the challenge because I’m especially not paying 50 bones for it.

You can queue up the demo right here if you’re connected to the internet and want to have it waiting for you. Will you break your back for this?

I might try the demo but I will pass on the game. Sports games are so played out.

I’ll check out the demo but I doubt I will buy it. Without real NFL players, this will fail. The only non-NFL game that wasn’t bad was Blitz-The League. I like the storyline that was added to the gameplay.
EA should go ahead at throw an update out for $10 that updates the roster on older Madden titles for those that don’t want to purchase the new Maddedn. I think that could work instead of their current charge for online play.

I’m enjoying the demo. I’ll definitely pick this up once football season rolls around. It’s a different experience and that’s a good thing as far as I’m concerned.
The camera angle is pretty good and it makes you feel like you’re on the field. The passing mechanics take some getting used too but are solid overall. It’s quite intense trying to scan the field with this new camera angle.
Physics and animations are by far the best ever for a football game. I’ve seen some pretty wicked hits. Apparently, leading with the helmet is legal in this game because I’ve laid out guys with some pretty hard hits (spears & helmet shots).
Graphics are pretty good for the most part. The grass actually looks like grass for once. Lighting is nicely done and the stadium is detailed. The crowd looks good at a distance but not so great up close.
I’m pretty disappointed with the replay system. For a game that’s been touting big hits, the replay system is really limited. You can’t change the camera view or even rotate the camera.

either way i agree with Deac, all these other games not back by the NFL usually suck ass. ill stick with Madden, always have (with the exception of NFL Quaterback Club ’99 for the N64, you guys know what im talkin’ about!) always will. and before anyone goes on about how they sell the same thing year after year after year, ripoff, blah blah blah blah. stop whining, just buy the next year back USED. I’ve never paid more than $10 for a Madden game on the 360. I usually pick and choose years when the Cowboys were pretty decent that year so I won’t suck ass playng as them, lmao
