USB storage enabled on Xbox 360 this Spring?
Rumor has it (according to Joystiq) that the Xbox 360 will soon enable a new storage medium…the USB drive. People have complained quite often about the storage capacity and limits on the Xbox 360 especially when compared to the competition. It appears that Microsoft is at least willing to budge a little come this Spring.

There are a few notes though that you should be aware of before you go digging around your PC for that 1 terabyte USB drive. There is a 32 gig limit on storage for the USB option. The console will only recognize up to 16 gigs on a single device and up to two devices (each device can only store 16 gigs each). That means no matter how big your personal USB drive is, only 32 gigs of it will be allowed as a storage option for the Xbox 360. It’s better than nothing eh?
You can store Xbox LIVE Arcade titles, downloadable content as well as full games. I suppose this is a good thing for those of you with an Arcade console and a 512MB memory unit.
[Update]
Microsoft is going to provide Xbox branded USB drives to use. That’s no surprise I’m sure but you don’t have to use them. You can use any USB drive.

I think its a great thing for game profiles… i hate waiting what feels like 10 years for my profile to download to an xbox… Plus game saves that i have on two differnt HDDs… It would be better if it was a full terrabyte HDD, but after sitting around thinking about it, i think 16-32gigz is pleeeenty for my needs…

yeah plenty for me too especially given the fact that my 120 gig still have 80+ gigs on it. (yeah i don’t download a lot lol)

My only issue is USB Stick memory is more prone to failure and corruption than a hard drive. So I would definitely have 2 sticks and try to keep one as a backup for extra safety.

@BostonPimpDaddy Flash memory is actually more reliable than hard drives since flash memory has no moving parts. Although, Flash drives would probably more prone to damage since many are made cheaply out of plastic.

Now this is something big, & may just confirm my Slim 360 prediction… Microsoft proprietary Hard Drives are out due to their size.
Damn I’m good!

This is great news for me since I have a launch 20 gig HDD. Storage is always an issue for me.

i’ve only got about 4 gb’s left on my elite.
but 32 gb’s isn’t really helping. they should do it like the ps3 does. way better.
