Microsoft gives points, Gold membership, Beta invite for shutting down LIVE
Microsoft plans to reward those of you who they deem “avid Halo 2 fans” and will lose the ability to play the greatness of Halo 2 when they shut down Xbox LIVE on the original Xbox soon. Emails have been sent out to those affected detailing a few goodies. What are those goodies? You’ll get a fresh batch of Microsoft Points (400 to be exact), a 3-month extension of Xbox LIVE Gold added to your account and an invitation to the the Halo Reach Beta.

You’ll get a token for the 400 Microsoft Points d you must use them within a year because they expire 365 days after Microsoft emails you with them. The 3-month Xbox LIVE membership will be automatically added to your account. As far as the beta invite, you’ll receive an email with the code as the Halo: Reach Beta gets closer.
I’m not sure when these goodies will be given or if they’ll be enough to compensate those of you still playing on your original Xbox but at least it’s something right? So let’s recap what Microsoft is giving you…
- 400 Microsoft Points
- 3-month Xbox LIVE Gold membership
- Halo: Reach Beta invite
What say you? Is it enough to compensate? (thanks for the head’s up Nanakai)

Nice! I’m sure they have already identified the Gamertags that play Halo 2 the most. But just to be sure, I might have to start a healthy dose of Halo 2 multiplayer.

if they’re targeting Halo 2 players then i expect not to be on the list lol

I got my email this morning. Thanks to my kids who rather play Halo 2 than Halo 3 against each other. Now do I let them use the 400 points for themselves or is it my points? I’m going with my points.

Sounds fair to me. They really didn’t HAVE to do anything in the first place! As we spoke about on the show about 2 episodes ago. This is a move toward imminent progress. It had to happen.

your points definitely qwik lol

Is it for only people who got the email or anyone who plays Halo2 that day? LOL
March 4th, 2010 at 1:32 pm
UHH the email said nothing about playing Halo 2 on any day…wtf were you reading Boston? lol

I have no email and I played Halo 2 loads back in the day. And I’m still on my Original gamertag. How rude of Microsoft!
I even played it about 2 years ago when my 360 Red Ringed so I started using my Original XBOX to play my games on.
Where is my email

meh, the 3 months is Okay … but I find it mind numbingly stupid as well as hilarious that MS believes anyone still thinks that 400 freakin spacebux is worth ANYTHING anymore … on paper this appears to be a decent offer, upon further inspection I find it to be an empty gesture …
