PS3, Xbox 360 Thermal Comparison, Who’s Hotter?
It’s getting hot in here so take off all your clothes your gaming accessories? The console wars will likely never end. Which one is better? Which has better games? Which one of them truly outputs a million-80P? (watch the DirecTV commerical to understand where I got that from)
I came across a really cool comparison video today that supposedly shows the thermal profiles of four different versions of the consoles. It uses an Xbox 360 Arcade, Xbox 360 Elite, PS3 40GB and a PS3 Slim to show which console dishes out the most heat. It’s one of the coolest (and more convincing) videos I’ve seen when talking about comparisons between the consoles. Surprisingly it appears that the Xbox 360 Elite emits a significantly lower amount of heat than the other console versions. (or is it disguising its heat pattern better)
I’m actually really surprised that the Arcade and the PS3 Slim appear to have a larger heat pattern. The video even shows the thermal footprint left after the consoles are removed. I guess we’ll never know the exact variables used when filming/recording the video but it seems pretty darn accurate.
What’s your take?

One thing to remember is that the power supplies are integrated in the PlayStation 3’s and for the 360 it comes in the form of the power brick thus it is external from the system and making the console as a whole look cooler.

Good call, Steve. I completely forgot about that. The PS3 should be hotter.

this video is pretty sick, although my console feels like its a hell of a lot hotter than this video leads on sometimes lol.

No console is hotter than the PimpDaddy™!

Thanks for the input guys!
We included the power bricks for the 360’s for that very reason. If you look at them you can clearly see that they put off intense amounts of heat. If those were to be integrated as the PS3’s are, I bet the heat signatures would be completely different.

I don’t use a cooling device for my 360 (arcade with 60g HDD) it sits by my computer monitor and it never feels hot to the touch, or warm to it.
My Mac Mini tho, now that little bugger can pump out the finger warming heat but it is actually in normal temp parameters., , I need to put a thermometer on it one day and see just how warm it gets.
