Dead Space vs. Resident Evil 5

Engineer Suits & Cutters vs. Vests & Magnums

When it comes to weapons and armor in each game, you’ll find that they both do a pretty good job of protection.  However, this is a versus battle and someone has to edge the other out.  Plasma cutters and Line Guns have to take the cake.  Of course there’s a fully upgraded Magnum to contend with but there’s also a fully upgraded Line Gun.  Dead Space wins.  I think I’d even rather have the engineer suit because it looks much cooler.  It’s a tough call on the weapons because they’re all so effective.  I just think having a 26th century weapon is something more to brag about around camp fires.

There’s so much awesome in sending a wave beam from a line gun that totally rips your limbs and body apart.

Winner – Dead Space

Dead Space

Atmosphere & Location (Spooky) vs. Not-so Spooky

Dead Space managed to create an atmosphere that was both refreshing and disturbing.  I still get chills just thinking about entering a Zero Gravity area hearing the thumping of my heart and footsteps.  It was beautifully done and it shines much brighter than Resident Evil 5.  There was nothing scary about Resident Evil 5 and that includes its enemies and its atmosphere.  It’s almost as if it lost its soul and became more of a simple action title.  Where were the wet-your-pants moments like something jumping out of  window?

I suppose it had a lot to do with the location of each game.  Dead Space drops you on board an abandoned, freaky looking ship in space with the possibility of things in every corner.  Resident Evil 5 decided that maybe the heat in Kijuju (fictional place in Africa) was a good spot to scare you.

Dead Space annihilates Resident Evil 5 in setting the atmosphere and backing it up with the type of sounds that only a distubring Twinkle, Twinkle remix could do justice.  The one thing I can say about both is that visually they’re two of the best on the Xbox 360.

Winner – Dead Space

Replay Factor

Replayability in Dead Space was disappointing because there isn’t much to do once you complete the game.  You can go back and try for all the Achievements and it’s just as much fun but it doesn’t really scream “there’s more to experience”.  Resident Evil 5 has a few (not a lot) of things you can go back to do in the form of offline/online modes.

This may be the easiest category to decide on.   I will admit that I keep going back to Dead Space just to go at those Necros again but that doesn’t change the fact that there’s technically more to do in Resident Evil 5 once the fight is over.

Winner – Resident Evil 5

Results

So as you can see Dead Space edges out Resident Evil 5  with a 4:3 margin as the best game to make the most out of the survival horror genre.  This isn’t meant to pick which one is the best game but rather which one is the best at what a survival horror game should be.  If you want to experience that particular genre, you’re better off with Dead Space.  Resident Evil 5 does a good job as an action title but it doesn’t perform up to the standards its predecessors had in the “scare me now” genre.

I hope you all enjoyed this article.  Feel free to spread its awesomeness to all your friends.  I’m really looking forward to Dead Space 2!

    Dead Space 4 sure………….
if u want to have a serious challenge….

i approve DS2 cuz in the DS series, the hero of game, or Isaac is just a mere engineer according to the story. He hasn’t been trained to combat like chris of RE series.
and…… DS is a lot scarier than RE…….
