Dead Space vs. Resident Evil 5
Some things are meant to be compared and some things are not. It doesn’t matter which category you put this particular article in because I’m going to write it anyway and I hope you enjoy it. There are elements of each game that the other could’ve benefited from greatly. The recently announced sequel, Dead Space 2, made me sit and think which game did horror fans more proud.
They’re both meant to scare you and invoke all kinds of tense moments but which does it best? I loved Dead Space as you probably already know by my review. I don’t think any game in 2008 managed to come out and live up to every bit of pre-launch hype the way that Dead Space did. The game was filled with large amounts of awesome sauce.

Let’s put these two horror games to the test shall we? Let’s find out which is the best in the survival-horror genre. I’ll look at a few key elements and decide the winner based on which game wins the most categories.

I mostly agree Deac… However, Isaac Clarke is far better because he can actually MOVE & Shoot at the same time. lol

Dead Space is definitely the better horror game, but neither can really be considered SURVIVAL HORROR. When you never have to worry about running out of ammo in either game the survival part goes right out the window.

Being alone in space with aliens has to be the scariest thing!
I thought this comparison was excellent. Nice job!

Great comparison, even though I love both. I agree, Dead Space takes the cake.

I’ve not played either, though both are on my wishlist. I think you’ve definitely convinced me to play one of them first, over the other

@Nanakai, trust in Deac
and thanks for the comments guys!

I am holding out for a dead space to dead space 2 transition and some time so I can play both. With the kids around the nightmare factor has been the major factor preventing me from going anywhere with the title.

I am even more excited about getting Dead Space in the mail today. I’ve heard mostly great things about the game and Deac’s article certainly makes me feel even better. Heck, @ $14.99 on Amazon.com, one really can’t go wrong. Oh, wait. I had credit from previously purchased, pre-ordered games, making Dead Space cost me $0.00. Woohoo!!!

Great story. I choose RE5. I had more fun with it. And I don’t think the ability to walk while shooting makes a difference in gameplay.
I do want to go back and play some Dead Space now.

@Gemini, i threw that line in there for an imaginary battle between Isaac and Chris lol….it wasn’t a jab at the gameplay

I will jab the gameplay, the inability to move while shooting is completely annoying, while you can get used to it and enjoy the game. I feel it is pretty ridonk that your feet don’t work when you aim. Also I don’t care if it’s been that way all along or not…what am i supposed to be sentimentally attached to my lack of coordination in the world of RE

Very nice work Deacon.
I love both games, but I do have to agree with you on this one. Dead Space did a better job at being a survival horror game than Resident Evil 5.

Fun read Deac. Always enjoy articles like these.
Overall, I’d say I had more fun with RE5 because of the co-op implementation and the fact that the game had a ridiculous amount of replayability thanks to the new game plus mode. I think I played through it with Sedington86 like 5 times from beginning to end. And nope, the controls didn’t bother me one bit.

People who like RE5 have low standards. lol

My free copy of Dead Space arrived and sat in the same spot for almost a month. This morning found me playing for about 2.5 hours and I am very impressed. I do my gaming in the early hours and do so with headphones so as to not wake up my wife. Having the headphones with this game is making it very, very spooky… muwahahahahaha….
