Prik-n-Lex’s Shameless Tirade

So I woke up on the wrong side of the news feed once again this morning…after attending to the early morning needs of my drowsy children I sat down with my morning coffee and hit the laptop. As a gamer we run into news stories focused on the negative aspects of gaming on a regular basis. So it was no surprise when I ran into the relationship troubles of fellow gamer Andy Murray. (He‘s the 4th best tennis player in the world for those of you who may not know).

The article made the “today” section of a universally used search engine, which carries with it mainstream exposure. After reading it, I found myself wondering what type of impact do these types of articles have on the world of gaming. Especially since they seem to be written by people who openly admit their lack of gaming knowledge. Usually without any understanding of what goes on behind the closed door of a gamer or even a gaming family. About ten minutes into my twisted thought pattern of snide and ranting remarks for the author I picked up the phone and called Irish. He was in….

We immediately brought up our own situations with reference to our relationships. We don’t believe we are bad people. Geeks maybe, gamers definitely, but relationship killers? Not in our world.

Irish asked me if I had ever seen the “girl smashes ps3” video on youtube (adult language). Off to youtube to watch what I can only describe as a not so happy girlfriend pwning her man’s gaming libido with one clean and jerk. Bringing us to our ongoing Tirade of the day, as gamers Irish and I are posing some interesting questions for debate through both tonight’s shout and the comments to this thread…

Does this really grind your gears? Does your relationship suffer from your gaming? Who supports/dislikes your passion for gaming? Was the author correct in assumptions that were made? Do they apply to you? Are you inspired to change your life in any way by this article? Do you think the girl would have smashed the console if it was an xbox 360? Is it actually just the ps3 that causes relationship problems? Can I get a what what? Will mike warrior defend/oppose the points in this article?

Join Irish and I because “gamer” stereotypes really grind our gears…

My wife fully supports my gaming. If it wasn’t for her, I doubt I’d be this much of a fan. She actually gave me an Xbox V1 for my birthday with Hit and Run back in ‘04.

My wife said it best a few days ago while watching King of the Hill. Peggy says to Hank, ” I married a man, not a gamer”. As I’m walking through the living room my wife responds with a smile on her face, “I did.”

WOW i just saw the video i can understand if he dosent have a job and not handling his business but breaking the ps3 was uncalled for…i think she was more upset that he was not paying attention to her…alot of women(not all) like to compete for a mans attention be it with his friends, family and in this case video games.

AT THE RISK OF SOUNDING MESSED….she could look at it like this he’s on the couch at home at 3am not at the club or in the street which would she rather have…..My wife had an issue with games until she started playing them and she came to realize this as well…she never broke my 360 (she aint crazy) but now she gets it
